About The Role
POSITION OVERVIEW
Peraton is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the Fraud Prevention System 2 (FPS2) program at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This role will lead data migration and deduplication workstreams, ensuring that legacy system data is accurately consolidated, cleansed, and harmonized into the target data platform.

Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

About The Role
POSITION OVERVIEW
Peraton is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the Fraud Prevention System 2 (FPS2) program at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This role will lead data migration and deduplication workstreams, ensuring that legacy system data is accurately consolidated, cleansed, and harmonized into the target data platform.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and execute end-to-end data migration pipelines to migrate legacy fraud-related data assets into the cloud data warehouse (Snowflake)
- Lead deduplication and record consolidation efforts across multiple CMS source systems, including provider, beneficiary, and case/referral records
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT workflows using modern tooling (e.g., DBT, Apache Airflow, SnapLogic) to support continuous data ingestion and transformation
- Perform data profiling, quality analysis, and validation across source and target environments to ensure migration accuracy and completeness
- Define and implement matching/resolution logic to identify and merge duplicate records across systems being consolidated
- Collaborate with CMS stakeholders, data architects, and fraud analysts to understand source system data models and define target state mappings
- Develop data lineage documentation and migration runbooks to support project governance and audit requirements
- Tune and optimize Snowflake objects (tables, views, tasks, pipes, clustering keys) for performance and cost efficiency
- Support data cutover planning and execution, including rollback procedures and validation checkpoints
Qualifications
Minimum of 16 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 14 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 10 years with Ph.D.
- Demonstrated experience executing large-scale data migrations
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one scripting language (Python preferred) for pipeline development and automation
- Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools such as DBT, Apache Airflow, Informatica, SSIS, or SnapLogic
- Experience with data quality validation, reconciliation testing, and migration verification across complex, multi-source environments
- Familiarity with CMS or federal government data environments, including relevant data governance and security requirements
- Active ability to obtain or maintain a Public Trust suitability determination
NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
- Direct experience on a CMS program
- Experience with deduplication or entity resolution techniques
- Knowledge of CMS claims, provider enrollment, or beneficiary data structures
- Experience with master data management (MDM) tools or frameworks
- Familiarity with fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) detection workflows and data models
- Experience in Agile/Scrum delivery environments with tools like Jira and Confluence
