Job Description

Duties

  • Plans, organizes, and conducts physical surveys of organic and private industrial plants to evaluate facility capacity, capability, and potential for production surge.
  • Evaluates the capacity of private business concerns to produce equipment or systems, and maintains awareness of emerging technology trends.
  • Monitors and evaluates the OIB Modernization Implementation Plan and Acquisition/Sustainment management efforts of subordinate commands.
  • Reviews industrial management innovations from industry and academia for incorporation into national/command policies.
  • Utilizes broad technical knowledge of manufacturing materials, processes, and methods to resolve issues arising during the acquisition life cycle.
  • Acts as a technical expert and consultant on complex defense industrial base issues to senior HQ leadership and program executive offices.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative contact with private business concerns and defense agencies to resolve industrial base problems.
  • Serves on joint assessment teams to visit contractor plants, observe manufacturing processes, and recommend corrective action plans.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Evaluating organic or commercial industrial manufacturing capabilities and production surge capacity to identify vulnerabilities and assess sector health, 2. Advising acquisition or program management officials on industrial base policies and manufacturing processes to resolve production problems during the acquisition life cycle, and 3. Conducting industrial plant surveys or compliance evaluations of manufacturing facilities to assess contractor capabilities and develop corrective action plans This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
