Cyber Architect Job Description

The Cyber Architect is the senior technical thought-leader for safeguarding Lockheed Martin's high-value aerospace and defense systems. When a program lacks explicit cyber-design requirements, the Cyber Architect creates the missing security foundation, proposing work that reduces risk, enables future-proofing, and satisfies downstream compliance/survivability objectives. This Cyber Architect candidate is responsible for ensuring that cyber security requirements are properly defined, decomposed, allocated, assessed, and implemented into a system architecture to produce a cyber-resilient security design solution for the target platform (Air System or Weapon System). This includes participating in working groups, design reviews, and formal artifact reviews alongside other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the overall platform; and providing security expertise to ensure that cyber security is considered early in the product development lifecycle. The incumbent works hand-in-hand with Senior System Architects, shapes the program's security vision, and defines tasks for junior cyber architects while also partnering with adjacent teams to propose tasks for CSSE engineers to deliver that vision efficiently. This role is pivotal in crafting persuasive, high-impact proposals that embed cybersecurity into the engineering lifecycle of legacy programs with architectural patterns that create a clear, low-cost migration path for future modernization contracts. The senior Cyber architect has technical authority for security critical decisions and serves as the strategic bridge between the technical reality of an aging system and customer requirements for secure, compliant, and survivable solutions. This role leverages reference models such as zero-trust, micro-segmentation, and secure data-flow diagrams and translating those models into reusable design patterns that can be applied across the portfolio. The Cyber Architect understands systems such as mission/vehicle systems and leads threat-modeling workshops using STRIDE, Attack path modeling, or DREAD methodologies, producing a prioritized risk register that ties each identified threat to specific mitigation actions. By performing a thorough gap analysis against security controls, the architect creates a clear roadmap that shows exactly which security controls could be added to legacy systems to reduce risk and achieve compliance. This Cyber Architect efforts will align to the technical execution of a range of model-based engineering initiatives, including interpreting existing documentation and technical inputs to develop models, and conducting experiments with cutting edge technology/processes to drive rigor and digital engineering transformation in our Aeronautics Programs of Record. Likewise, the applicant will support the building of relationships and partnerships with leading DoD technology performers to capitalize on unique skillsets and capability offerings that drive efficiencies and effectiveness in our products and any follow-on new business capture. The ideal candidate will also be able to communicate effectively with a range of audiences, technical and non-technical, and will function effectively on an engineering team to create a collaborative environment that allows for the establishment of mission goals, itemized planning of tasks, and prioritization of tasks that drives the efficient execution of objectives.
