Job Description

Summary

The Access Control Specialist is responsible for controlling access to designated facilities, property, and restricted areas through the verification of credentials, visitor processing, screening procedures, and security monitoring activities. This position serves as the first point of contact for employees, visitors, contractors, and government personnel and plays a critical role in maintaining a secure, professional, and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

  • Control access to facilities, restricted areas, and government property by verifying credentials, authorization documents, badges, visitor passes, and identification.
  • Process employees, visitors, vendors, contractors, and authorized guests in accordance with established access control procedures.
  • Monitor entry and exit points to ensure compliance with site security requirements.
  • Conduct interior and exterior security inspections and report security concerns, safety hazards, suspicious activities, or procedural violations.
  • Verify access authorizations and resolve routine access issues through established procedures and supervisory guidance.
  • Maintain awareness of security conditions and promptly report incidents, emergencies, or unusual activities.
  • Professionally greet and assist employees, visitors, contractors, government personnel, and VIP guests.
  • Provide directions, guidance, and information regarding facility access procedures.
  • Maintain a courteous, professional, and service-oriented approach during all interactions.
  • Support visitor escort and access procedures as required.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous access control, security, military, law enforcement support, customer service, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a government, military, industrial, or secured environment preferred.
  • Prior experience interacting with the public and providing customer service is highly desirable.
  • Must be capable of exercising sound judgment and maintaining composure in stressful situations.
  • Obtain and maintain a TS clearance.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
  • Knowledge of access control procedures, visitor management practices, and facility security principles.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices and professional public interaction techniques.
  • Ability to quickly identify and report security concerns, policy violations, and unusual activities.
  • Ability to interpret and apply written instructions, post orders, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to remain professional and effective in stressful, fast-paced, or high-visibility situations.
  • Strong observational, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, electronic access control systems, databases, and standard office equipment.
  • Skill in preparing reports, maintaining records, and documenting incidents accurately and thoroughly.
