Forward Deployed Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is hiring for a Forward Deployed Engineer to support a growing federal technology organization focused on secure software delivery & DevSecOps for U.S. national security missions. This is a primarily remote role open to candidates in the DC/MD/VA region. The Forward Deployed Engineer will own the technical execution of complex federal customer deployments, leading application onboarding, troubleshooting infrastructure and integration issues, and establishing repeatable implementation standards. This role will work closely with Product, Platform Engineering, Sales, and senior customer stakeholders to ensure secure, compliant, and successful deployments.

Responsibilities of the Forward Deployed Engineer

• Lead complex federal customer deployments, including first-of-kind application onboardings and multi-agency/multi-enclave rollouts
• Architect and configure cloud deployments across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP
• Lead application onboarding for security scanning and accreditation
• Troubleshoot complex Linux, infrastructure, integration, and deployment issues
• Perform root-cause analysis and turn recurring deployment issues into permanent fixes
• Develop implementation standards, technical playbooks, documentation, and troubleshooting procedures
• Serve as a technical escalation point and mentor other Implementation Engineers
• Partner with Product and Platform Engineering to translate customer requirements and field challenges into platform improvements
• Work directly with senior government customers and program managers during high-stakes deployments
• Travel up to 25%

Qualifications of the Forward Deployed Engineer

• 8-10+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, cloud engineering, or implementation/deployment engineering
• Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required
• Advanced hands-on Linux installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and hardening experience
• Strong DevSecOps experience and understanding of secure software deployment practices
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP
• Experience troubleshooting complex integrations between legacy systems & modern software platforms
• Experience owning complex, production-grade deployments with limited oversight
• Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, and escalation management experience
• Strong customer-facing communication skills
• Experience supporting DOD, federal, defense, or national security environments preferred

Compensation for the Forward Deployed Engineer includes:

• Salary: $160,000-190,000 depending on experience and location

• Work Arrangement: Primarily remote within an approved hiring hub
