Onsite in Huntsville, AL | Schedule: 9x80

We are hiring a Human Factors Engineer to support the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Program and GMD Weapon System (GWS) for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), with a focus on the design and development of the GMD Fire Control (GFC) product. This role applies Human Factors Engineering (HFE), human-computer interaction (HCI), user research, and UI/UX design to complex missile defense software, including user assessments, journey maps, user flows, task analysis, wireframes, mockups, and end-user feedback that informs the Agile product backlog.

Responsibilities:
  • Apply Human Factors Engineering (HFE) principles to software-centric GMD Fire Control system design and development.
  • Develop and administer qualitative and quantitative user assessment methods.
  • Collect and analyze formative and summative end-user feedback and data to inform product development and drive the product backlog.
  • Develop journey maps, user flows, task analyses, and related user-centered design artifacts.
  • Design User Interface (UI) concepts, wireframes, and mockups based on operator tasks and workflows.
  • Translate user research and operator feedback into actionable product requirements and backlog priorities.
  • Collaborate across technical teams supporting the GMD Weapon System (GWS) and GMD Fire Control (GFC) product.
  • Support development of user-centered solutions for a complex system operating within a broader system-of-systems environment.


Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Must possess an active Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Human Factors, User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of related experience or a Master's degree with 0 years of related experience; experience must not exceed 10 years.
  • Fundamental understanding of Human Factors Engineering (HFE) principles as applied to software-centric system development.
  • Experience developing and administering qualitative and quantitative user assessment methods.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing formative and summative end-user feedback/data to drive a product backlog.
  • Experience developing journey maps, user flows, task analyses, or equivalent user-centered design artifacts.
  • Experience with UI design, including developing wireframes and mockups based on operator task flows.
  • Ability to communicate technical and user-centered design concepts across collocated and geographically dispersed technical teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working on a product team and driving a product backlog in coordination with multiple Scrum team Product Owners.
  • Prior experience supporting Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs, with GMD experience preferred.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in an Agile development environment.
  • DoD experience with user-centered UI/UX design and/or user research for complex systems operating within a system-of-systems environment.
  • Experience supporting system development and assessment against MIL-STD-1472 Human Engineering requirements.
  • Interest in developing an in-depth understanding of GMD components, end users, and system-of-systems operations.
