Position: Special Operations Combatives Instructor
Type: Part-time
Location: San Diego, CA
Travel: Travel may total up to four (4) one-week trips annually.
**Contingent Upon Award**
The Special Operations Combatives Instructor supports Naval Special Warfare Basic Training Command (NSWBTC) Detachment SEAL Qualification Training by delivering advanced combatives and mindset-focused physical training instruction to Naval Special Warfare personnel and candidates. The position serves as a specialized instructor responsible for maintaining continuity of training, supporting professional development activities, developing curriculum progression plans, and ensuring training remains aligned with approved doctrine and tactics. The selected candidate will provide hands-on instruction across multiple combative disciplines and support ongoing training sustainment initiatives that contribute directly to force readiness and mission effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Deliver combatives instruction.
• Conduct training for candidates and staff members.
• Teach combatives stance and footwork fundamentals.
• Instruct clinch, takedown, takedown defense, and wall-control techniques.
• Teach ground techniques and concepts.
• Develop and submit quarterly training progression plans.
• Support professional development and sustainment training events.
• Coordinate with Government training personnel to maintain curriculum alignment.
• Implement approved tactics, techniques, and procedures into training programs.
• Participate in validation and program review activities.
• Maintain contractor manpower reporting requirements.
• Ensure safe execution of all training events.
Required Qualifications:
• US Citizen
• Valid U.S. driver's license
• Must hold an active Secret Security Clearance (SCI eligible)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Clear and effective verbal and written communication
• Minimum five (5) years of documented experience teaching combatives to Special Operations Forces personnel.
• Minimum five (5) years of professional or collegiate-level experience in at least four (4) of the following disciplines:
• Experience across all three phases:
• Minimum ten (10) years of experience teaching or coaching combatives at various experience levels.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience planning, managing, and executing multiple combatives training programs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
