Job Description
Our client, a large professional services firm, is looking to hire a remote Infrastructure Automation Engineer for a 3-month contract. The consultant will work to replace manual infrastructure processes with production-ready, unattended Python and PowerShell automation pipelines. The candidate will be writing secure code against diverse vendor APIs, expanding unit test coverage, and implementing robust observability (dashboards and alerting).

- Convert manual or legacy infrastructure workflows into scheduled, production-ready Python applications and data pipelines.
- Develop and maintain client code interacting with storage array, SAN fabric, backup, ITSM, and secrets-management APIs.
- Instrument all delivered automation with logging, telemetry, and enterprise monitoring dashboards to eliminate silent failures.
- Build and scale mocked unit test suites to maintain high coverage; actively participate in peer and AI-assisted code reviews.
- Package and deploy scripts to Windows and Linux automation servers under strict change control. Deliver architecture records, READMEs, and knowledge transfer sessions to SME teams.
Required Skills:
- Senior level production Python engineering experience (packaging, standard logging, type annotations, concurrency, requests, and paramiko)
- Proficient in advanced functions, classes, and REST API interaction (Invoke-RestMethod). Experience with VMware PowerCLI is required.
- Strong grasp of roles, collections, Jinja2 templating, Ansible Vault, and writing custom modules.
- Deep experience building isolated, mocked test suites using pytest and Pester.
- Expert-level capability in consuming complex REST APIs, handling pagination, rate limits, and manipulating JSON/YAML.
- Proficiency with Git/GitHub workflows and writing read-only queries in SQL/SQLite/PostgreSQL.
- Ability to read, understand, and safely retire legacy Perl scripts.
