Leidos’ Defense Uncrewed Systems Interoperability and Test is seeking a motivated and ambitious Technical Writer join the Software, Simulation, Systems Engineering and Integration Directorate (S3I) Joint Technology Center – Systems Integration Lab (JSIL) Technology and Certification Center. In this role, you'll be responsible for writing, editing, proofreading and/or providing writing support on technical documents such as manuals, procedures and technical specifications for technical design teams, clients and/or end-users.

Primary Responsibilities
- Translate engineering designs, software workflows, and hardware specs into step-by-step procedural tasks, tailored to the intended audience.
- Create documents such as user manuals, training guides and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support UAS programs within the JSIL portfolio.
- Can quickly become familiar with the appropriate DoD policies and procedures that govern document creation and technical writing, and determine how to best encapsulate those standards in to usable material for not only engineering staff, but the end user as well.
- Build, organize and maintain structured knowledge bases, product documentation, and technical libraries within Confluence spaces.
- Manage documentation backlogs, documentation review cycles, and peer reviews using Jira workflows and issue tracking.
- Partner closely with Systems Engineers, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and various other stakeholders to capture rapidly, and often evolving technologies, keeping technical documentation in a functional and relevant state.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Engineering or related field with 4-8 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in similar field with 2-6 years of relevant experience.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical team members.
- Demonstrated ability to write plain-language instructions, structured procedural guides, and quick reference materials for non-technical users.
- On-site work (no remote/hybrid options) with ability to travel up to 25% of the time
- U.S. citizenship
- Possess and able to maintain a Final Secret Clearance
- Must be a resident of Huntsville, AL or willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in Atlassian Confluence, Jira, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Prior experience with military writing conventions (AR 25-50 / AR 25-30), DoD Plain Language guidelines, or user-centric training materials.
