Description
The Specialist, Systems Engineer will be responsible for the development of advanced communication subsystem hardware/software for multi-segment (space, ground, airborne) applications. The position will span initial concept development through hardware/software implementation, test, and delivery. Potential applications include high rate, assured, and optical communications. The incumbent will be accountable with understanding all levels of development requirements, to lead multi-disciplined engineering teams in the development of new capabilities, and to manage subcontractors. They will leverage their knowledge in requirements development, parts, materials, and process flow down, and System Verification and Validation. The ideal candidate will have a strong, multi-discipline technical background and will work directly with internal technical IPT's developing requirements, implementing designs and working with customers and associated sub-contractors.
Essential Functions:
Systems engineering lead that organizes, participates, and manages key project/program engineering tasks
Leads requirements analysis, requirements decomposition and assignment of requirements to appropriate functional areas of responsibility and/or subcontractors, and manages traceability of requirements back to customer specifications and system level derived requirements
Leads design synthesis and generation of supporting design documentation which includes technical specifications, interface control documents, test plans and procedures, and test conformance to specifications through verification cross reference matrix (VCRM)
Ensures technical performance, quality, and adherence to established policies and processes
Develops and presents project/program design reviews for both internal and external customer audiences
Leads or assists in project/program schedule and budget planning, subcontract control, risk management
Leads or assists in management over systems engineering team and other teams of functional design engineers
Leads or assists system integration, verification, and qualification events
Participation in customer request for information (RFI), request for proposal (RFP) and new business development pursuits, including on-site and off-site technical capability demonstration
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Clearance: Candidate must currently have, and/or be able to maintain an active U.S. Government DOD Top Secret Clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
Leadership skills, with the ability to guide the technical direction/vision for a given project. Must also be a strong contributor to integrated product teams internal and external to the company.
An understanding of communication theory, with a working knowledge of digital design, RF design, mechanical design, network design, or software design of digital line-of-sight and satellite communication systems
Understanding and knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle
An active Secret or Top Secret US DoD clearance or the ability to obtain a US DoD clearance
Experience in requirements management and documentation is a must. Other key skills are risk management, project planning, and technical project management
Strong communication skills (both written and oral) and formal presentation skills are required
Candidate should be skilled in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, DOORs, or similar tools
Experience managing technical projects that include system integration, system verification, and formal qualification, including supporting integration and qualification events at customer locations
