Manufacturing Engineer II (Production Support Engineer II)

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer II, also referred to as a Production Support Engineer (PSE) within V2X, supports the definition, documentation, and improvement of production processes required to manufacture products safely, efficiently, and with high quality. This role executes process planning tasks with moderate supervision, translating engineering intent into clear production routings, work instructions, and visual aids, and providing hands‑on support to the production floor. Manufacturing Engineers II apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) concepts, interpret engineering drawings and models, and collaborate closely with design engineers, quality, supply chain, and production personnel to drive continuous improvement in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain production routings and Bills of Material (BOMs) in the ERP system (SAP S/4HANA).

• Author and update clear, detailed work instructions and visual aids for assembly, rework, and inspection operations.

• Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and specifications to define manufacturable processes that reflect design intent.

• Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews in collaboration with design engineering.

• Design and update basic to intermediate fixtures, jigs, and tooling to improve assembly, repeatability, and safety (using PTC Creo or similar CAD tools).

• Assist with the development and maintenance of Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).

• Support the processing of nonconforming material, including documentation, basic root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective/preventive actions in coordination with Quality.

• Contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) and lean initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost (e.g., waste reduction, standard work, 5S).

• Provide hands‑on troubleshooting support to production, helping resolve process, tooling, and documentation issues.

• Ensure manufacturing documentation (routings, work instructions, drawings, MBOMs) is controlled and current in ERP/PDM systems (SAP, Windchill, or equivalent).

• Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to clarify technical requirements and support Make vs. Buy decisions as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering/Technology, or closely related field.

• Typically 2-5 years of engineering experience in an industrial assembly and/or manufacturing environment.

• Experience developing technical work instructions and/or standard operating procedures for assembly and/or rework operations.

• Experience using an ERP platform to generate or maintain production routings and BOMs (SAP S/4HANA preferred).

• Experience using 3D CAD software (PTC Creo preferred) to interpret models and create or update production drawings.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including familiarity with ASME Y14‑series standards (Y14.5 GD&T) and basic understanding of ASME, ASTM, SAE, and ISO standards related to manufacturing and materials.

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and technical skills.

Desired Experience & Skills

• Experience (2-5 years) in aerospace and/or defense manufacturing environments; familiarity with AS9100 quality systems is a plus.
• 2+ years of experience in industrial machining operations or metal fabrication operations (e.g., forming, cutting, welding) or equivalent hands‑on exposure through projects/roles.

• Exposure to or participation in lean manufacturing and Continuous Improvement (CI) activities (e.g., Kaizen events, value stream mapping).

• Experience supporting or contributing to Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs) and Root Cause & Corrective Actions (RCCAs).

• Experience designing or modifying basic tooling, fixtures, jigs, or support structures for assembly operations.

• Experience using Product Data Management (PDM) tools such as Windchill for document control and change management.

• Familiarity with military standards and technical specifications (e.g., MIL‑STDs, MIL‑PRFs, MIL‑SPECs, FED‑STDs, USAF TOs, NAVAIR Instructions) related to fabrication, materials, and test requirements.

• Familiarity with basic electrical and/or hydraulic systems is a plus.

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs and spend time on the production floor.

Security & Export Compliance

• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

• Applicants must be able to work with technical data subject to U.S. Government export control regulations (ITAR/EAR).
