Job Description
The Engineering Technician I provides entry-level industrial and technical support for production control, logistics, material movement, shop-order processing, and related activities supporting programs under the NUWC Keyport Industrial Support Services (ISS) contract. This position is located in Keyport, WA.
Responsibilities may include assembling and disassembling, repairing, cleaning, and performing basic preventative maintenance on vehicle shells, buoys, and components. The technician may also prepare and stage materials, package and move hardware, assist with repair kits, enter routine status information, and support the movement of work through Government shops. When assigned and qualified, the position may perform basic assembly or installation tasks involving simple wiring, soldering, connections, and hand tools.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Assemble or install equipment and parts requiring basic wiring, soldering, or connections.
- Perform simple, routine tasks under close supervision or in accordance with detailed procedures; work is reviewed during progress or upon completion.
- Cross train across Engineering Technician areas within the ISS Contract, including (but not limited to) Torpedo Depot and Torpedo Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA), through 3-6-month rotations.
- Support Work-Order Entry, Tracking of Status, and Other Data Support Reporting and Entry Needs
- Perform duties that may involve occupational exposure to hazardous substances such as Otto Fuel II, lead, chromium, or cadmium.
- Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks, including extensive cleaning of parts and components in designated "dirty" work areas.
- Rotate in and out of various roles as part of the cross-training program.
- Follow all applicable safety and quality requirements, procedures, and practices while maintaining effective communication and coordination with team members.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including full-body PPE for extended periods during certain rotations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Technical, vocational, military, industrial, logistics, or material-handling training preferred.
Experience
Strongly Preferred:
- Minimum of one year of experience supporting industrial operations.
- Experience with material handling, production support, packaging, assembly, warehousing, or shop operations preferred.
- Experience following detailed procedures, shop orders, or technical instructions.
- Basic experience using computers and entering information into electronic systems preferred.
- Prior Department of Defense, depot, manufacturing, or government-facility experience preferred.
License, Cert or Registration
Required:
- U.S. citizenship is required due to the security-clearance and Government-access requirements of the position.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the personnel security eligibility required for assigned work, up to a DoD Secret clearance.
- Required equipment, hazardous material, safety, and process qualifications must be obtained and maintained.
- Full medical certification, including an ordnance physical.
- Enrollment in the contractor-managed random drug-testing program
Preferred:
- Licensed and certified to operate a 6,000-pound electric forklift, diesel forklift, and CAT III overhead crane.
- Ability and experience operating a pallet jack and Big Joe stand-behind pallet lift.

- Ability to follow detailed instructions and perform routine assignments under close supervision.
- Basic knowledge of industrial-shop, warehouse, or production-support practices.
- Ability to package, stage, identify, and move material safely.
- Basic ability to assemble or install parts using common tools.
- Ability to perform simple wiring, soldering, or connecting when trained.
- Basic computer and data-entry skills.
