Our client is seeking a hands-on Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to help strengthen and scale cybersecurity practices across a growing software organization supporting mission-critical environments. This individual will serve as a key technical contributor responsible for vulnerability management, compliance initiatives, secure software development practices, and overall cybersecurity operations. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys solving complex problems, partnering with engineering teams, and taking ownership of security challenges from identification through resolution. Due to federal security clearance requirements, applicant must be a United States Citizen with an active Secret clearance. This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Responsibilities:
- Lead cybersecurity initiatives across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Identify, analyze, and remediate application and infrastructure vulnerabilities.
- Partner with software engineers to integrate security throughout the development lifecycle.
- Support compliance efforts related to federal security standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in security assessments, audits, and risk management activities.
- Help improve security processes, release management controls, and operational procedures.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and recommend preventative measures.
- Serve as a technical resource during customer discussions and security reviews.
- Contribute to incident response, vulnerability management, and security monitoring activities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and leadership teams.
Experience Requirements:
- 8-12+ years of overall technology, software engineering, infrastructure, or related experience.
- 2-5+ years of cybersecurity-focused experience.
- Strong hands-on experience identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities.
- Experience supporting regulated or compliance-driven environments.
- Knowledge of STIGs, security controls, vulnerability management, and security best practices.
- Familiarity with federal security frameworks such as NIST, RMF, FedRAMP, FISMA, or similar standards.
- Ability to work directly with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to take initiative and drive issues to completion.
- Preferred: Experience supporting Department of Defense or federal government programs.
- Preferred: Familiarity with Authority to Operate (ATO) processes and compliance initiatives.
- Preferred: Experience with cloud environments, including AWS or AWS GovCloud.
- Preferred: Understanding of secure software development practices.
- Preferred: Prior software development experience, particularly within modern application environments.
- Preferred: Experience reviewing source code and collaborating with development teams on remediation efforts.
- Preferred: Background supporting healthcare technology, enterprise software, or other highly regulated industries.
