Systems Engineering Deputy Business Unit Leader

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Deputy Business Unit Leader to support the Naval Air Warfare Center Systems Engineering Department programs at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD. This role will directly support overseeing contract execution, technical performance, strategic growth initiatives, and talent acquisition. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of Systems Engineering contracts within the Naval Air Systems Command and the Naval Air Warfare Center environment, strong leadership capabilities, and a solid engineering foundation, along with the ability to engage directly with government stakeholders onsite.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Systems Engineering Business Unit Leader in the management, execution, and growth of the Systems Engineering contract's task orders supporting Naval aviation programs.
• Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of technical teams, ensuring high-quality deliverables and mission success.
• Serve as a key liaison between government stakeholders, program offices, and internal teams.
• Regularly go onsite to NAS Patuxent River to meet with government customers, build relationships, and ensure alignment on program objectives and performance.
• Assist in strategic planning, business development, and capture efforts related to Systems Engineering opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, quality standards, and regulatory guidelines.
• Monitor program performance, including cost, schedule, and technical metrics, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Mentor and develop engineering and program management staff.
• Support recruiting efforts by partnering with talent acquisition teams, participating in candidate interviews, and helping identify and attract top engineering talent.
• Contribute to proposal development, including technical writing and solution development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field (Master's degree preferred).
• Extensive experience supporting Systems Engineering contracts for the U.S. Navy, preferably within Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and NAWCAD programs.
• Strong understanding of Systems Engineering processes, lifecycle management, and DoD acquisition frameworks.
• Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and complex programs.
• Experience working directly with government customers and stakeholders in an onsite environment.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Active DoD security clearance (Secret or higher required).
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working directly at or supporting NAVAIR/NAWCAD
• Familiarity with Naval Aviation systems, Research/Development/Test & Evaluation, and aircraft integration programs.
• Program management certifications (e.g., PMP, DAWIA) are a plus.
• Experience supporting business development, capture efforts, and workforce planning.
