Job Description
AWS Migration & Modernization Engineer
Part-time W-2 | Remote | Approximately 20 hours per week | Anticipated start within 2 weeks | Expected through December 2026
Compensation: $72,800-$93,600 annualized for this 20-hour/week role (equivalent to $70-$90 per hour).
We are seeking a hands-on AWS Migration & Modernization Engineer to assess, plan, and execute migrations of legacy workloads to AWS. This is a technical delivery role for an engineer who has personally built and migrated environments—not a project-management-only position.
What you will do
• Assess workloads and recommend rehost, replatform, refactor, retire, retain, relocate, or repurchase approaches using the 7 Rs.
• Plan and execute AWS migrations, including discovery, dependency mapping, cutover planning, validation, rollback, and post-migration stabilization.
• Build repeatable infrastructure and migration automation using Terraform and Python.
• Migrate and modernize applications and data using AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, and related tools.
• Create technical runbooks and operational documentation.
• Support containerization and refactoring work using Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, and CI/CD practices.
• Apply least-privilege, security, and compliance considerations throughout delivery.
Required qualifications
• 10+ years of hands-on infrastructure, cloud engineering, or modernization experience.
• Demonstrated end-to-end AWS migration delivery experience.
• Strong AWS experience, including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, networking, and storage.
• Strong Terraform and Python skills.
• Experience with workload discovery, dependency mapping, migration cutovers, and runbooks.
• Practical knowledge of modernization patterns, including containerization and application refactoring.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience with AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), CloudEndure, AWS DMS, AWS Transform, or comparable migration tooling.
• Experience with AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP), RMF/ATO, or regulated cloud environments.
Applicants must be able to work on a W-2 basis for approximately 20 hours per week. No travel is required.
