This Senior Systems Engineer position is within the Air Mobility & Maritime Missions Processors and Displays Engineering team at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics located in Marietta, Ga that delivers high-performance computing and display solutions for next-generation air-mobility aircraft. The team develops and fields mission-critical avionics for aircraft platforms including C130J and C5. This senior systems-engineer position supports the integration of processor-based subsystems throughout the aircraft lifecycle. The role is onsite (remote work is not authorized for this position) and follows a 4x10 hours day work schedule, Monday-Thursday, 3 days off per week. Travel is occasionally required for supplier site visits and customer briefings.

Key Responsibilities For the Senior Systems Engineer include:

  • End-to-end system integration of processor-based avionics subsystems on complex aircraft platforms.
  • Develop and execute system-level test plans, performance benchmarks, and validation procedures (in laboratory and on-aircraft).
  • Integrate, test, and troubleshoot Line-Replaceable Units (LRUs) from the aircraft production line through the flight line, both in the laboratory and on-aircraft.
  • Troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis on hardware, firmware, and software issues; implement/facilitate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts with internal and external engineers across electrical, software, thermal, reliability, and program disciplines to create technical approaches that meet program/customer objectives, safety-critical standards, and performance requirements.
  • Serve as technical liaison to internal teams, external suppliers, and customers, representing the organization on challenging engineering problems.
  • Lead supplier design reviews, review technical data packages to verify that LRU hardware/software meets requirements, and manage supplier schedules to align with Lockheed Martin program timelines.
  • Guide junior engineers and lead technical programs while operating under general direction.


Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field from an accredited college
  • Minimum 5 years of systems engineering experience (or related field), or 3 years with a Master's degree
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Windows-based collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, OneNote).
  • Experience in diagnosing and resolving technical issues with integrated systems
  • Experience leading tasks across engineering, program, and functional organization
  • Experience developing and executing system or subsystem level tests


Desired Skills

  • Supplier Management: Experience managing supplier relationships, technical data packages, and schedules
  • Requirements Traceability: Experience with requirements traceability and traceability tools such as, or similar to, IBM DOORS
  • Processor-focused Engineering: Prior engineering experience focused on processor architecture, integration, or validation in complex hardware-software platforms (e.g., aerospace, defense, high-performance computing).
  • Aerospace/Military Standards: Familiarity with relevant military/aerospace standards (e.g., DO-254, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429) and high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, Serial, etc.)
  • Agile Process: Familiarity with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or similar) as applied to hardware-software integration projects


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $85300.00 - $158300.00

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
