The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.

The Critical Infrastructure Group (CIG) within JOID provides technical, programmatic and analytical support to customers with missions in national security to include the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Group brings technical and operational expertise in fields of countering weapons of mass destruction, critical infrastructure protection, emergency response, nuclear non-proliferation, weapons deployment programs, and transportation safety. In addition to management and advisory services, CIG staff collaborate closely with our clients to provide high-quality modeling, simulation, software, and analytical products to meet the most demanding government standards and timelines.

We have an immediate need for an AI and Robotics SME to provide onsite support out of Gaithersburg, MD or Boulder, CO.

Responsibilities

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) for AI and Robotics Program Management Support will act as a high-level advisor providing operational and program management support to the NIST AI Accelerator Director. Will support day-to-day management of NIST AI Accelerator R&D activities, supporting the development and adoption of AI-driven tools and robotics in national priority areas. Responsibilities include conducting progress reviews, assessing technical developments, evaluating project deliverables, and collaborating directly with NIST scientists in AI, cybersecurity, robotics, and manufacturing. Will work with NIST AI research staff to inventory ongoing research and research capabilities and contextualize these within market needs, gaps, and trends. Additionally, the SME supports the management of Accelerator data, technology transfer, intellectual property, and research security to maintain a coherent and coordinated program.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or an AI-related technical field.
  • 10+ years of progressive professional experience managing complex technology initiatives, strategic tech-industry portfolios, or advanced R&D programs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in executing program operations.
  • PMP certification.
  • Demonstrated experience with establishing risk management frameworks, and evaluating technical deliverables across domains such as artificial intelligence, robotics, AI for cybersecurity, and smart manufacturing.
  • Exceptional communication skills as demonstrated by invited speaking opportunities at professional or industry conferences, or presentations to C-level executives.
  • Ability to develop decision memos, executive briefing materials, and visual slide decks for leadership and C-suite executives.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Ability to work fully onsite based on client needs.


Pay Range Information
