About the position:
The Biomedical Technician I - IV assembles, installs, and inspects new biomedical equipment. Assembles equipment and conducts pre-operational tests to verify compliance with medical and technical standards, specifications, contracts, and regulatory guidance at all levels. Installs or coordinates the installation of medical equipment that requires interface with other devices or with the facility. Resolves installation and associated maintenance support problems. Performs formal acceptance testing of complex medical equipment and installations such as diagnostic radiology systems and physiological monitoring systems. Performs pre-procurement surveys and provides technical advice regarding the purchase of new biomedical equipment systems and the required facility interface requirements.

Classification of Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMET's) I - IV will be in accordance with the following: As a minimum, BMET's shall be a graduate of the Department of Defense (DoD) Medical Equipment Repairers Course, certified through the International Certification Commission (CBET), or have at least earned an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Medical Equipment Technology.

- BMET I : BMET may have an associate/2 years degree or higher in Medical Equipment Technology. Must have a good knowledge of schematics and work under relatively close supervision on repairs, safety testing, and preventive maintenance (PM). Maintains records, writes reports, and coordinates outside repairs. Average experience required is 2 years. Have advanced knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and types of equipment.
- BMET II : BMET who must have an associate/2 years degree or higher from a college/university in Medical Equipment Technology. Must have a good knowledge of schematics and work under relatively close supervision on repairs, safety testing, and preventive maintenance. Maintains records, writes reports, and coordinates outside repairs. Average experience required is 4-6 years. Have advanced knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and types of equipment.
- BMET III : A highly experienced or specialized BMET, who must have an associate's degree or higher from a college/university in Medical Equipment Technology. They must have substantial experience and may be certified (CBET). Must be highly skilled work of considerable difficulty. Have a comprehensive knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and types of equipment. The average experience is 8 years.
- Lead BMET III: A highly experienced or specialized BMET III, who must have an associate's degree or higher from a college/university in Medical Equipment Technology. Must have substantial experience and may be (CBET) certified. Must be highly skilled work of considerable difficulty. Have a comprehensive knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and types of equipment. The average experience required is 8 years. Possesses all the qualification for BMET III with ability to lead and manage subordinate BMETs. Have a comprehensive knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and types of equipment.
- BMET IV : A highly experienced or specialized BMET IV, who must have an associate's degree or higher from a college/university in Medical Equipment Technology. They must have substantial experience and must be (CBET) certified. Must be highly skilled work of considerable difficulty. Must have expert knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and types of equipment. Average experience is at least 12 years. Lead Located at Fort Detrick, MD (non-negotiable).

Required Skills/Abilities:
- Field experience using medical materiel Information Systems (MMIS).
- Computers, diagnostic equipment, craft tools, personal protective equipment as required.
- Application of technical knowledge of electronic principles in determining malfunctions and skill application in restoring equipment systems and operations.
- Applicable operations experience.
- Prior experience in the electronics maintenance field
- Prior experience in repair.
- Basic understanding of processes, as well as the Microsoft Office Professional suite of software (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Education and Experience:
- Minimum Two years of field experience in performing initial inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, general maintenance, and repair of medical equipment within Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidance.
- Must have graduated from The DoD Biomedical Maintenance Course or an accredited civilian Biomedical Maintenance Course.
- May be required to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
