Software Engineer II / III – Radar Software (C++)

Level: Software Engineer II (2-5 years) or Software Engineer III (5+ years)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Software Engineer to support the development of advanced radar capabilities within a complex, real-time combat systems environment. This role focuses on the design, development, integration, optimization, and testing of mission-critical radar software operating across distributed, multi-processor computing architectures.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience developing modern C++ applications in Linux environments and possesses a strong foundation in software engineering principles, object-oriented design, real-time systems, and performance optimization. Candidates with experience supporting radar systems, sensor processing, signal processing, missile defense, tracking systems, or other defense-related applications are highly preferred.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to advanced radar capabilities supporting national defense missions.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain real-time radar software utilizing modern C++.
Develop software solutions for distributed and multi-processor computing environments.
Implement and optimize algorithms supporting radar control, tracking, sensor processing, and data management functions.
Analyze software performance and implement improvements to throughput, latency, and computational efficiency.
Support GPU acceleration efforts using CUDA or similar parallel computing technologies where applicable.
Develop automated unit, integration, and regression tests to ensure software quality and reliability.
Troubleshoot software defects and support root cause analysis activities across integrated systems.
Collaborate with systems engineers, integration teams, test engineers, and program leadership throughout the software lifecycle.
Create and maintain technical documentation including software designs, interface definitions, test procedures, and engineering reports.
Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, peer reviews, and technical demonstrations.
Support software integration, verification, validation, and customer testing events.
Required Qualifications:
Software Development
2-5 years of experience for Software Engineer II or 5+ years for Software Engineer III.
Professional experience developing software using modern C++ (C++11, C++14, C++17, or newer).
Strong understanding of object-oriented design and software engineering principles.
Experience developing software in Linux environments.
Experience using Git, GitLab, or similar version control systems.
Experience with software debugging, profiling, and performance optimization.
Technical Skills:
Experience developing real-time or near real-time software applications.
Knowledge of multi-threaded, distributed, or multi-processor systems.
Experience creating automated test solutions and software verification frameworks.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Experience using Python and/or MATLAB for algorithm development, prototyping, simulation, or data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting AEGIS, SPY radar systems, missile defense systems, or other advanced sensor platforms.
Radar, signal processing, sensor fusion, tracking, or fire-control software experience.
Experience with GPU computing and CUDA development.
Experience working with large-scale defense systems and hardware/software integration.
Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), DOORS, or requirements traceability processes.
Experience using Google Test, CTest, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, or similar automated testing tools.
Knowledge of networking, real-time operating systems, and high-performance computing architectures.
Prior military or defense industry experience.
