What You'll Do:
The Junior Systems Administrator provides entry-level technical support to the NALCOMIS Virtual Environment (VE) and Detachment Server teams supporting Virtual Environments hosting NALCOMIS/OOMA/OIMA and NIWC-directed virtual machines, as well as NIWC-provided Detachment Server Pool Stock used by squadrons for detachment operations. Working under close supervision, this role assists with routine system checks, imaging and staging of systems, basic configuration and troubleshooting, documentation, inventory, and end‑user support to help maintain overall system readiness for both virtual and deployed environments.

Job Description
What You'll Do:
The Junior Systems Administrator provides entry-level technical support to the NALCOMIS Virtual Environment (VE) and Detachment Server teams supporting Virtual Environments hosting NALCOMIS/OOMA/OIMA and NIWC-directed virtual machines, as well as NIWC-provided Detachment Server Pool Stock used by squadrons for detachment operations. Working under close supervision, this role assists with routine system checks, imaging and staging of systems, basic configuration and troubleshooting, documentation, inventory, and end‑user support to help maintain overall system readiness for both virtual and deployed environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine system status checks, log collection, and health monitoring for VE-hosted systems as directed by senior staff.
- Assist with ticket intake, documentation, and escalation of VE- and detachment-related issues using established incident and request workflows.
- Support execution of routine patching and updating tasks (e.g., staging patches, following checklists) under supervision.
- Assist with build-up, imaging, and basic configuration of Detachment Server Pool Stock in accordance with NIWC Load Procedures and applicable System Administration Guides.
- Conduct physical inspections, labeling, and inventory control for detachment servers and associated equipment.
- Support pre-deployment checks and functional verification of detachment systems prior to release to squadrons, and assist with return, reconstitution, and re‑baselining following deployments.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of both virtual environment systems and detachment servers; coordinate with journeyman/senior administrators to resolve issues.
- Help maintain accurate inventory and configuration records for VE resources and Detachment Server Pool Stock, including serial numbers, software versions, and maintenance histories.
- Provide basic end-user support to supported organizations, escalating complex issues as appropriate.
- Assist with preparing outage notifications, maintenance announcements, and tracking completion of planned activities.
- Coordinate with squadrons and VE staff regarding schedules, hand-offs, and documentation for detachment support activities.
- Participate in training on virtualization technologies, NALCOMIS/NTCSS, detachment server procedures, and cybersecurity best practices as part of professional development.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
- Associate's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, or related field; additional experience may be substituted for degree.
- Certifications:
- Ability to obtain DoD 8570/8140 Requirement: IAT Level II baseline (Security+ CE) within 6-12 months of hire; entry-level certifications (A+, Network+, IAT I) acceptable at start depending on contract.
- Experience
- A minimum of four (4) years of systems administration of Windows and/or Linux servers (accounts, OS patching, basic troubleshooting), including at least two (2) years supporting virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V) with mission-critical workloads.
- Basic familiarity with Windows or Linux operating systems, standard IT troubleshooting practices, and installing OS images / configuring basic network settings.
- Familiarity with fundamental cybersecurity practices, patch management, and backup/restore procedures.
- Familiarity with ACAS or similar vulnerability scanning tools, and a basic understanding of STIGs and DISA guidance.
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to travel to project and customer locations as needed.
- U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with NALCOMIS/OOMA/OIMA, NTCSS, or similar Naval aviation logistics systems.
- Exposure to virtualization concepts (VMs, hypervisors, snapshots) through work or lab experience.
- Experience supporting deployable or fielded IT systems (e.g., shipboard, expeditionary, or squadron support environments).
- Prior experience in a DoW/DoD, federal, or defense contractor environment.
- Entry-level IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar.

- $95k-$105k
