What You'll Do:
The Journeyman Systems Administrator provides mid-level systems administration and cybersecurity support for Virtual Environments hosting NALCOMIS/OOMA/OIMA and NIWC-directed virtual machines, as well as Detachment Server Pool Stock used by fleet squadrons. Under the guidance of senior VE staff, this role supports day-to-day operations, patching, monitoring, vulnerability management, STIG implementation, documentation, and user assistance to maintain availability, security, and compliance of VE-hosted and detachment systems.

Job Description
What You'll Do:
The Journeyman Systems Administrator provides mid-level systems administration and cybersecurity support for Virtual Environments hosting NALCOMIS/OOMA/OIMA and NIWC-directed virtual machines, as well as Detachment Server Pool Stock used by fleet squadrons. Under the guidance of senior VE staff, this role supports day-to-day operations, patching, monitoring, vulnerability management, STIG implementation, documentation, and user assistance to maintain availability, security, and compliance of VE-hosted and detachment systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily systems administration tasks for VE-hosted servers, including account management, log review, basic performance monitoring, and routine maintenance.
- Implement NIWC-directed updates, OS and application patches, and configuration changes for VE-hosted systems.
- Conduct routine system checks and support application validation after maintenance or outages; report anomalies and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Provide console-level support within the VE where RDP is restricted, including reboots, configuration verification, and troubleshooting of VMs.
- Support preparation, configuration, and verification of Detachment Server Pool Stock, ensuring readiness for squadron detachment requests.
- Support ACAS vulnerability scanning activities for VE-hosted systems, including target validation, scan coordination, and initial results review.
- Execute assigned vulnerability remediation tasks, including OS and application patching, configuration changes, and STIG checklist updates.
- Conduct routine security checks such as account audits, security log review, and configuration validation for VE-hosted systems.
- Assist with incident response for VE-related security events (data collection, initial containment actions) under direction of senior staff.
- Maintain accurate records in ticketing and change management systems for incidents, service requests, changes, and remediation actions.
- Assist in maintaining cybersecurity documentation for VE systems, including POA&Ms, scan reports, remediation plans, and configuration baselines.
- Coordinate with senior VE administrators, cybersecurity personnel, and Government stakeholders to ensure systems meet NIWC and DoD/DoW cybersecurity requirements and timelines.
- Provide user support and basic technical/cybersecurity guidance to supported organizations within established procedures and escalation paths.
- Support communication of maintenance notifications, outage messages, vulnerability remediation windows, and restoration updates.
- Support incident response and root-cause analysis for complex VE issues; recommend long-term corrective actions and resiliency improvements.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, or related field; additional experience may be substituted for degree. (One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required)
- Certifications:
- Ability to obtain DoD 8570/8140 Requirement: IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., Security+ CE) within 6 months of hire (current IAT II or higher preferred).
- Experience
- A minimum of four (4) years of systems administration of Windows and/or Linux servers (accounts, OS patching, basic troubleshooting), including at least two (2) years supporting virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V) with mission-critical workloads.
- Experience administering Windows and/or Linux servers in a secure, DoD/DoW or federal environment.
- Familiarity with fundamental cybersecurity practices, patch management, and backup/restore procedures.
- Familiarity with ACAS or similar vulnerability scanning tools, and a basic understanding of STIGs and DISA guidance.
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to travel to project and customer locations as needed.
- U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with NALCOMIS/OOMA/OIMA, NTCSS, or similar Naval aviation logistics systems.
- Experience administering virtualized environments such as VMware vSphere/ESXi or Microsoft Hyper‑V.
- Experience supporting Navy, NIWC, or other DoD/DoW IT programs or environments.
- Working knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies, RMF concepts, and defensive security practices.
Maryland Pay Range:
- $105k-$115k
