Now Procuring: Independent Contractor Field Investigators
1099 Independent Contractor | Remote | Federal Background Investigations
Are you a credentialed investigator with federal BI experience and an active Top Secret clearance? SCIS Intelligence & Investigations is seeking Independent Contractor (IC) Field Investigators to support federal background investigation programs. This is flexible, performance-based work for self-directed professionals who thrive working independently.
Work Structure: Approximately 90% remote / 10% field-based. ICs manage their own schedules and caseloads-success here requires strong self-discipline and organizational skills.
This role is structured as a 1099 independent contractor engagement. Pay is performance-based on completed work; benefits are not included.
What You’ll Do:
• Conduct background investigations for federal clients to determine employment suitability and security clearance eligibility
• Interview subjects, sources, and record providers (face-to-face and virtual)
• Complete record searches at law enforcement agencies, courthouses, and financial, mental health, and educational institutions
• Compile findings into clear, concise reports using standardized federal formats
• Maintain compliance with federal standards, applicable laws, and agency regulations
What You Bring:
• Training to National Training Standards (NTS) for federal background investigations
• Direct federal BI experience within the last three years
• Active Top Secret clearance (REQUIRED)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing
• Proficiency with Windows-based systems and smartphones
• Ability to complete all required training prior to assignment
