Job Description
Connsci is seeking an AWS Cloud Engineer to provide support to the Office of Data Analytics (ODA) for one of our federal customers. This position provides engineering, administration, and operational support for a hybrid cloud environment consisting of Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud (US) and on-premises infrastructure. The successful candidate will support cloud modernization, systems administration, infrastructure automation, cybersecurity, and enterprise operations while maintaining secure, reliable, and scalable computing environments.
In this role you can expect to:
- Build, configure, deploy, secure, and administer cloud system resources, servers, and other multi-user devices to support virtual machines, storage, network, and other off-premises and cloud resources.
- Design scalable infrastructure for IT projects to meet specified business needs, including planning and scheduling deployments and incorporating cloud migration, modernization, or optimization to improve efficiency and save on costs.
- Assess traffic flow between internal and external networks to determine the necessary firewall rules and forward/reverse proxy exceptions to establish connections and implement these changes successfully in virtual and/or physical appliances as well as on individual hosts.
- Configure and manage on-premises network switches, monitor system health, and maintain network design supporting hybrid architecture
- Create new automated jobs and scripts to streamline routine system tasks, including Command Line interfaces, PowerShell/Bash, or experience with CI/CD pipelines to automate the deployment of code.
- Monitor consumption, identify inefficiencies in cloud-based systems and resources, and suggest improvements to reduce costs and maximize taxpayer value. This may include request fulfillment improvement, application performance, and systems security posture.
- Perform routine system maintenance, including operating system upgrades, resizing VM resources, and security patching on virtual machines, as well as firmware/software updates for hardware.
- Coordinate with system owners in other divisions and offices in triaging issues and escalating tickets as required.
- Develop, maintain, and debug current custom IT solutions and program code when needed.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation regarding network and system design and governance, to include requesting and obtaining approval for baseline changes in the environment through change requests, as well as providing artifacts to attest system security documentation related to security control implementation for system authority-to-operate.
- Creating and modifying domain objects, groups, and policies in Active Directory and Group Policy-Management and maintaining system security posture through proper management through these policies.
- Perform analysis on emerging application enhancements as a benefit to the business models.
- Provide input and best practice recommendations to current and future policies and procedures as needed or requested.
- Conduct internal technical reviews to improve performance, support, and technical enhancements.
- Develop standard operating procedures, knowledge base articles, technical bulletins, and other documents supporting the office.
- Using provided tools, monitor system security baseline and health of applications and services, routinely report security tool installation/communication status, and provide regular reporting on the system's security posture.
- Ensure routine backup of managed virtual machines and storage utilizing AWS native architecture and routinely verify backups.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from a US Department of Education accredited University is required. Relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for education.
- At least 3 years of experience as a cloud engineer supporting Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure and applications.
- At least 3 years of experience with Active Directory
- At least 1 year of experience supporting Windows Server
- Required Certifications (Current): CompTIA Security+ and AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or other equivalent AWS certification.
- Current Top Secret, DOE Q, or Public Trust High Risk Tier 4 clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience administering virtualized environments and enterprise infrastructure.
- 3+ years of experience developing automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
- 3+ years of experience with enterprise networking to include experience with DNS, DHCP, switching, routing, and firewall
- 1+ year of experience with Linux OS
- Experience supporting Federal Government cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Experience supporting cybersecurity compliance, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and Authority to Operate (ATO) activities.
- Experience monitoring cloud performance, security posture, and infrastructure health using enterprise monitoring tools.
