Position Overview
The Senior Java Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, modernization, integration, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and sustainment of enterprise mission-critical applications, contributing across the full software development lifecycle and supporting enterprise solutions operating within AWS, Azure, Cloud One, and DISA environments.
This role requires advanced expertise in Java enterprise technologies, Oracle application frameworks, DevSecOps methodologies, cloud technologies, CI/CD automation, application security, and performance optimization — working closely with business analysts, product owners, functional subject matter experts, testers, system administrators, and software engineers to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing solutions aligned with operational mission requirements.
What You Will Do
● Design, develop, modernize, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise Java applications supporting mission-critical operational systems, translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
● Develop and maintain Java-based web applications, web services, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
● Perform advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and defect resolution across application, middleware, database, and cloud environments.
● Develop and optimize SQL, PL/SQL, and database objects to support application functionality and performance.
● Support application deployments and configuration management within WebLogic, GlassFish, Docker, and cloud-hosted environments, and participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning and retrospectives.
● Develop and maintain CI/CD automation pipelines and support DevSecOps initiatives, including automated builds, security scanning, vulnerability remediation, and artifact management (Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, Git, SonarQube, Checkmarx, CAST).
● Analyze and optimize application performance using monitoring and testing tools such as JMeter and CloudWatch, and support cloud migration and modernization initiatives across AWS and Azure.
● Develop and maintain technical documentation, conduct code analysis and peer reviews, and provide technical support for production systems to minimize service interruptions.
Required Qualifications
● 12+ years of enterprise Java software development experience, including 5+ years building enterprise web applications and web service interfaces.
● 5+ years of experience with SQL and PL/SQL development and database performance optimization.
● 3+ years supporting CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps processes, and 3+ years supporting cloud-hosted applications in AWS and/or Azure.
● Experience supporting enterprise applications deployed within WebLogic, GlassFish, or similar application server environments, with strong experience in Oracle ADF, JSF, TopLink, and JasperReports.
● Strong understanding of enterprise application architecture, integration concepts, and Agile methodologies; experience with source control, artifact management, automated deployment, performance analysis, and secure coding practices.
● Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills; ability to work independently in complex technical environments and support production systems.
● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience); ability to obtain and maintain the required government security clearance, with CompTIA Security+ or better.
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) enterprise systems, including Cloud One environments.
● Experience with Docker containerization and Jenkins automation and deployment pipelines.
● Experience with SonarQube, Checkmarx, Fortify, or related security scanning technologies, and with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible and YAML.
● Experience with AWS CloudWatch, EventBridge, IAM, and RDS monitoring, and supporting highly available, scalable enterprise systems.
