Maximus is hiring a Senior Cloud Architect with extensive experience designing, integrating, and leading enterprise-scale multi-cloud environments for Department of Defense missions. Proven ability to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architectures aligned with Government-led strategies and Department of Defense compliance frameworks. Expert in multi-cloud integration, development, security, and operations enablement, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud security architecture, supporting mission-critical operations across multiple Impact Levels. Owns the technical vision and architecture for the A1 Multi-Cloud Ecosystem, ensuring scalability, resilience, and integration of cloud service providers and enterprise services.
This role is hybrid in San Antonio, Texas.
Core Responsibilities:
Serve as senior technical authority for enterprise cloud architecture, ensuring alignment with Government strategy, mission objectives, and Contractor Program Management Lead
Design and govern multi-cloud architecture (Azure, Amazon Web Services, GovCloud); develop scalable multi-account and multi-tenant architectures, including hub-and-spoke models and governance controls
Lead cloud service provider integration and platform modernization, including identity, networking, shared services, and architectural roadmaps
Define and implement Infrastructure as Code strategies for automated provisioning, configuration management, and lifecycle operations
Establish architecture standards, patterns, and guardrails
Ensure interoperability across mission systems and enterprise platforms
Provide technical oversight for engineering and development, security, and operations teams to ensure integrated, secure, automated software delivery
Design high-availability and resilient cloud solutions to meet performance requirements including uptime, scalability, and low latency.
Oversee development and documentation of test plans related to the multicloud ecosystem
Lead implementation of disaster recovery architectures, including cross-region replication and continuity of operations strategies.
Develop and enforce cloud security architecture aligned with Risk Management Framework, National Institute of Standards and Technology Special Publication 800-53, Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, and Defense Information Systems Agency requirements.
Develop and maintain architecture documentation including system diagrams, technical specifications, and standard operating procedures
Support Government decision-making through technical analysis, briefings, and advisory recommendations

Minimum Qualifications:
- 8+ years in enterprise architecture and cloud solutions
- The duties of this position align to Department of Defense Cyber Workforce Framework Work Role 628 - Software/Cloud Architect at the Advanced proficiency level. Because the current Department of Defense 8140 Qualification Matrix does not publish a qualification pathway for Work Role 628, this is a proposed alignment pending Government confirmation and applicable interim guidance. The selected candidate must satisfy all qualification requirements established by the Government before performing covered work.
- Ability to commute as needed to the work location in San Antonio.
- Experience designing Department of Defense reference architectures in government-owned enterprise cloud ecosystems (e.g., Cloud One, Platform One)
- Active Information Assurance Technical/Information Assurance Management Level II baseline certification before performing contract work.
- Candidates must possess a favorably adjudicated Tier 3 (T3) background investigation, or a favorably adjudicated background investigation meeting or exceeding T3 standards, before performing work on this contract. An active Secret security clearance is not required.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- An active Secret security clearance is preferred but is not required for consideration, selection, or performance under the current contract requirements.
- Professional cloud architect certification for Amazon Web Services, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Expertise in hybrid/multi-cloud networking, identity federation (Zero Trust) plus Cloud security architecture and compliance (Risk Management Framework, Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, Defense Information Systems Agency)
- Relevant and recent experience with development, security, and operations pipelines and automated deployment strategies (to include zero downtime and blue/green deployment best practices in order to achieve high-availability and other similar Service Level Agreements)
- Experience with application programming interface-first architectures and microservices
- Familiarity with data platforms, artificial intelligence/machine learning integration, and analytics pipelines
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code technologies (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Knowledge of cloud financial operations and cloud cost optimization practices
- Strong engagement and executive-level technical communication with internal and external stakeholders
