Maximus is seeking a Lead Security Architect whi will be responsible for designing and implementing secure cloud architectures aligned with DoD and Air Force requirements, including Risk Management Framework (RMF), Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), and Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) compliance. The Lead Security Architect leads the security architecture and implementation across the Multi-Cloud Ecosystem (MCE), ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards and enabling automated, scalable security controls. Works hand-in-hand with Lead Cloud Architect and Site Reliability Engineer to deliver secure cloud solutions for the Government.
This role is Hybrid at our San Antonio office.

Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and implement enterprise cloud security architecture.
- Provide technical leadership to the Cybersecurity, Risk Management Framework, and security operations center team of approximately nine personnel.
- Enforce boundary protection, monitoring, and cyber defense.
- Lead compliance automation (Risk Management Framework (RMF), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Publication 800-53, Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP)).
- The duties of this position align to Department of Defense Cyber Workforce Framework Work Role 628 - Software/Cloud Architect at the Advanced proficiency level. Because the current Department of Defense 8140 Qualification Matrix does not publish a qualification pathway for Work Role 628, this is a proposed alignment pending Government confirmation and applicable interim guidance. The selected candidate must satisfy all qualification requirements established by the Government before performing covered work.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 8+ years in enterprise architecture and cloud solutions
- The duties of this position align to Department of Defense Cyber Workforce Framework Work Role 628 - Software/Cloud Architect at the Advanced proficiency level. Because the current Department of Defense 8140 Qualification Matrix does not publish a qualification pathway for Work Role 628, this is a proposed alignment pending Government confirmation and applicable interim guidance. The selected candidate must satisfy all qualification requirements established by the Government before performing covered work.
- Ability to commute as needed to the work location in San Antonio.
- Experience designing Department of Defense reference architectures in government-owned enterprise cloud ecosystems (e.g., Cloud One, Platform One)
- Active Information Assurance Technical/Information Assurance Management Level II baseline certification before performing contract work.
- Candidates must possess a favorably adjudicated Tier 3 (T3) background investigation, or a favorably adjudicated background investigation meeting or exceeding T3 standards, before performing work on this contract. An active Secret security clearance is not required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An active Secret security clearance is preferred but is not required for consideration, selection, or performance under the current contract requirements.
- Cloud security certification, such as Certified Cloud Security Professional or Amazon Web Services Certified Security - Specialty.
- Experience with Zero Trust Architecture and Department of Defense Zero Trust strategies
- Expertise in Impact Level 5 accreditation and Authority to Operate processes
- Hands-on knowledge of cloud-native application protection platforms, security information and event management tools, and security orchestration, automation, and response tools (Splunk, Sentinel)
- Experience automating security compliance (Infrastructure as Code + policy-as-code)
- Understanding of cross-domain solutions and data protection
