Role Summary

The Senior Data Scientist will serve as a hands-on data engineering and analytics specialist responsible for modernizing decades of structured, semi-structured and document-based USFWS data into secure, traceable and AI-ready datasets.
Responsibilities:

• Build Bronze/Silver/Gold medallion data pipelines.
• Ingest legacy structured and unstructured data.
• Design reproducible and idempotent ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Maintain full record-level lineage.
• Implement PostgreSQL data structures.
• Design DynamoDB/document access patterns.
• Support AWS-based data processing.
• Ingest scanned permits, certificates and related documents.
• Perform OCR and structured-field extraction.
• Track each extracted value to document/page/region.
• Implement field-level confidence measures.
• Route low-confidence extractions to human review.
• Handle PII identification, masking and access control.
• Implement normalization, validation and quarantine processes.
• Produce data-quality scorecards and pipeline documentation.

Required Qualifications:

• 7-10+ years in data engineering/data science.
• Advanced Python and SQL.
• AWS data-platform experience.
• PostgreSQL.
• DynamoDB.
• ETL/ELT and medallion/lakehouse architectures.
• Data lineage and metadata management.
• OCR/document intelligence.
• Structured + semi-structured + document processing.
• Large-scale data-cleaning experience.
• PII/security/data-governance experience.
• Federal data experience desirable.
