Systems Engineer Lead - Germantown, MD

A federal science and research organization is expanding its enterprise engineering team, and we are hiring the lead for it. This is the senior technical authority on the systems engineering function - you set the architecture direction, you own the lifecycle, and you lead the engineers doing the work.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and develop a team of systems engineers, setting priorities and technical direction.
• Own enterprise IT design and documentation across cloud, on-premise and hybrid environments.
• Guide secure integration plans, configuration baselines and architecture artifacts.
• Direct alternatives analysis and cost-benefit analysis for modernization initiatives.
• Act as the escalation point for complex systems issues, outages and maintenance events.
• Serve as the senior interface between engineering staff and programme leadership.
• Evaluate emerging technology for scalability, resilience and security across the enterprise.

Requirements:

• U.S. citizenship, and the ability to obtain a Public Trust (Tier 2 / MBI) investigation. No active security clearance is required.
• Demonstrated leadership of systems engineering teams and projects.
• Expertise equivalent to certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator Expert, CCNP, VMware VCP, or comparable security and platform credentials.
• Proven record in secure system design, lifecycle integration and transition to operations.
• Interdisciplinary strength across systems engineering, cybersecurity and operations.
• On-site in Germantown, MD. Positions may also be staffed in Oak Ridge, TN or Lemont, IL.

Compensation: $150,000 to $190,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
