Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Design Quality Assurance Manager to provide pre-award and post-award design quality assurance services for construction projects with an estimated construction cost of less than $45 million. This position is responsible for reviewing design deliverables and construction submittals to ensure quality, technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting design quality assurance activities for architecture, engineering, and construction projects, with a strong understanding of design review processes, technical standards, and quality management principles.
Key Responsibilities
Provide design quality assurance services for construction projects with estimated construction costs under $45 million.
Perform pre-award and post-award design quality assurance reviews throughout project planning, design, procurement, and construction.
Review architectural and engineering design packages for quality, accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
Evaluate plans, specifications, technical reports, calculations, and other design documentation.
Review contractor and consultant construction submittals, shop drawings, product data, material submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
Verify compliance with project specifications, applicable building codes, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate design quality assurance activities with architects, engineers, project managers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Identify design deficiencies, inconsistencies, omissions, and constructability concerns, and recommend corrective actions.
Participate in technical reviews, design coordination meetings, and project quality reviews.
Prepare quality assurance reports, review comments, technical recommendations, and project documentation.
Support risk identification and resolution related to design quality and project execution.
Maintain organized records of design reviews, quality assessments, and project documentation.
Promote quality management best practices and continuous improvement throughout the design process.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, design management, quality assurance, or construction management.
Minimum 5 years of experience providing pre-award design quality assurance services for construction projects.
Demonstrated experience supporting construction projects with estimated costs under $45 million.
Bachelor's degree in:
Engineering
Architecture
Related technical discipline
Education Equivalency
The bachelor's degree requirement may be waived for candidates who possess one of the following professional licenses:
Professional Engineer (PE)
Registered Architect (RA)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting federal, Department of Defense (DoD), military, commercial, institutional, or public-sector construction projects.
Experience reviewing design packages during concept, schematic, design development, and final design phases.
Experience reviewing construction submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and technical documentation.
Knowledge of quality management systems, design quality assurance practices, and construction quality processes.
Familiarity with applicable building codes, engineering standards, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and design regulations.
Experience performing constructability reviews and multidisciplinary design coordination.
Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
Work Locations: Positions may be available at military installations throughout the National Capital Region, including Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
