Lockheed Martin Rotary & Mission Systems is seeking a full-time Systems Engineer. This Systems Engineer will support the Mission Electronics System (MES) program within our Undersea Mission Systems (UMS) market segment at our Manassas, Virginia location. This Systems Engineer will be part of a team responsible for requirements development, interface management, and system modeling implementation. This Systems Engineer will ensure SE process is followed and will produce needed documentation for design reviews. As the MES program uses the System Model as the source of truth, this Systems Engineer will need to bring passion and energy for advancing the model.

The Work

This position involves daily team interaction and collaboration with other engineering disciplines. This Systems Engineer must be able to effectively communicate and interface across the team to address matters that affect execution or performance of the project and provide regular progress status and participate in required program planning. The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including customers, end-users, and internal teams, is essential. This Systems Engineer should demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and a desire to optimize team efficiency throughout the entire lifecycle.

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. For positions that perform IT responsibilities, use E646, Systems Engr-IT.

Basic Qualifications

To excel in this role, the successful candidate should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline with 4+ years of related professional experience or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • Systems Engineering experience in all phases of the development lifecycle
  • Hands-on experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) methodology, use cases, activity diagrams, interface diagrams and requirements (Cameo MagicDraw preferred)
  • Involvement in detailed software and/or hardware design and development programs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Qualified candidates must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance. This requires U.S. Citizenship.


Desired Skills

  • Experience with creating/maintaining Systems Engineering, Integration & Test artifacts, such as requirements specifications, interface specifications, verification matrices, test plans, test procedures, test reports, etc.
  • Requirements management experience, including definition, decomposition, and verification
  • Experience with Undersea Mission Systems, including sonar and sensors
  • Experience with Platform as a Service (PaaS) environments and related services
  • Experience with human machine interface (HMI) control design
  • Modeling tools familiarity with Teamwork Cloud and branching
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and an Agile work environment


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $95900.00 - $178100.00

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
