Vice President, Human Resources - Aerospace & Mission Systems

BAE Systems Inc. is seeking a Vice President, Human Resources for the Aerospace & Mission Systems (AMS) segment. Reporting directly to the AMS President and indirectly to the Inc. SVP & Chief Human Resources Officer, this executive will be a key member of the segment leadership team and will shape the people, organization and culture agenda for the $11B AMS business that employs 22,000 employees across the United States and United Kingdom. Its broad portfolio of mission-critical technologies spans electronic warfare, navigation, electro-optical sensors, military and commercial avionics, precision guidance, communications, space electronics, and ground and tactical systems.
This is a business leadership role with HR expertise at its core. The successful candidate will work alongside the Segment President and leadership team to translate business strategy into the organizational capabilities, leadership, talent, culture, and workforce required to deliver today and position AMS for the future. Additionally, this individual will serve on the enterprise Human Resources leadership team setting strategy and delivering objectives across the entirety of the business.
The VP, Human Resources will bring an enterprise perspective, strong organizational judgment, and the courage to challenge conventional thinking. They will anticipate what the business will need and build a people strategy that enables growth, innovation, operational performance, and long-term competitive advantage.

What You'll Lead

1. Shape the business through people and organization
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the AMS President, the CHRO and the AMS leadership team, bringing a people, organizational, and enterprise perspective to business decisions.
  • Translate AMS strategy and growth priorities into a forward-looking human capital strategy that strengthens the business's ability to execute. Contribute to the overall Inc. human capital strategy and execution.
  • Serve as a sounding board and coach to the AMS Segment President and leadership team, providing candid feedback, helping leaders navigate complexity, and increasing their individual and collective effectiveness.
  • Help shape organizational choices to create a more agile, connected, and high-performing organization.
  • Bring external perspective, workforce insights, and data to leadership discussions, challenging assumptions and identifying emerging opportunities and risks to enable proactive decision-making.
2. Build the workforce of the future
  • Develop a long-range workforce strategy aligned with AMS's technology roadmap, customer commitments, growth agenda, and evolving business portfolio.
  • Anticipate critical capability needs across engineering, manufacturing, program management, and other strategically important talent segments.
  • Partner with business leaders to attract, develop, deploy, and retain critical and differentiated talent.
  • Champion innovative approaches to talent-including internal mobility, skills-based workforce planning, alternative talent models, strategic partnerships, and technology-enabled workforce solutions.
  • Ensure AMS has the leadership depth and succession pipeline required to sustain performance and growth.
3. Create an environment where exceptional people can do exceptional work
  • Shape an employee experience that connects people to the mission, strengthens engagement, and enables employees to perform at their best.
  • Build a culture characterized by collaboration, curiosity, agility, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Strengthen leadership capability throughout the organization to enable leading through complexity, developing talent, making enterprise-minded decisions, and driving performance.
  • Serve as a visible leader across AMS, building trust with employees and leaders at every level of the organization.
4. Lead HR as an integrated business capability
  • Lead and develop a high-performing AMS HR organization capable of operating strategically while delivering with excellence.
  • Partner across BAE Systems Inc. Centers of Expertise to leverage scale, expertise, and capabilities while ensuring solutions reflect the needs of AMS.
  • Champion thoughtful experimentation and modernization of HR practices, challenging legacy processes that no longer serve the business or its people.
  • Maintain strong governance, compliance, and risk management across a complex and highly regulated business.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
The Leader We're Looking For:
The successful candidate will be an accomplished executive who combines deep expertise in people and organizations with the mindset of a business leader.

They will bring:
  • 10+ years of HR leadership experience within a large, complex, technology-driven organization; experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, engineering, or another highly technical industry is required, in organizations large, complex organizations (more than $5B).
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering directly with a business president, CEO, or senior P&L leadership team.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with the ability to understand business strategy, operating performance, and technology-and connect them to organizational and workforce implications.
  • A track record of shaping and executing enterprise-scale talent, organization, workforce, and culture strategies.
  • Experience leading through significant growth, transformation, integration, or organizational change.
  • Sophisticated talent judgment and demonstrated success building executive teams, succession pipelines, and critical capabilities.
  • Successful in developing high-performing HR leaders and teams.
  • The ability to operate effectively within a complex matrix and influence across organizational boundaries.
  • Comfort using data and analytics to frame problems, challenge assumptions, and improve decision-making.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams and evolving HR operating models toward greater strategic impact.
  • The credibility, judgment, and executive presence to influence at the highest levels of the organization.
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
