We are seeking a Senior MUMPS / M Developer to support complex development and sustainment of enterprise applications built on MUMPS/M technologies. This role focuses on designing, coding, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting release validation for MUMPS routines, data-processing logic, interface-driven workflows, and structured data exchange. The Senior MUMPS / M Developer provides technical leadership for complex code changes, defect resolution, technical impact analysis, and cross-team coordination across mission-critical healthcare and business systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Design, develop, modify, test, and maintain complex MUMPS/M routines and related application/data-processing logic.
· Lead technical impact analysis across MUMPS/M code, data structures, interfaces, dependencies, test validation, and release readiness for requirements, defects, interfaces, and workflow changes.
· Support standards-driven updates to healthcare or business workflows involving structured data exchange, interface processing, batch jobs, or transaction/message processing, including integrations with external systems, services, APIs, or downstream applications.
· Troubleshoot complex application behavior, data issues, workflow problems, integration defects, and production-support issues; perform root-cause analysis, validate fixes, and support controlled release or sustainment activities.
· Review existing MUMPS/M routines and data structures to assess dependencies, risks, performance considerations, and downstream impacts.
· Support unit, functional, regression, IOC/UAT, and SQA-related testing through defect analysis, code remediation, and technical validation.
· Collaborate with integration developers, testers, analysts, configuration/release resources, SMEs, and Government stakeholders to support build and release readiness.
· Prepare and review technical documentation, implementation notes, troubleshooting guidance, and release-support information needed for controlled deployment and sustainment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· 5+ years of hands-on MUMPS/M development experience, including complex application enhancements, data-processing work, and defect resolution.
· Experience designing, modifying, testing, and troubleshooting MUMPS/M routines in enterprise or mission-critical application environments.
· Strong knowledge of MUMPS/M routines, data structures, legacy application logic, and enterprise application sustainment.
· Ability to perform code impact analysis, identify data dependencies, resolve defects, and validate code, workflow, and integration impacts.
· Experience supporting structured data exchange, interface-driven workflows, batch processing, message/transaction processing, and external system/API integrations.
· Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, including requirements analysis, test support, defect triage, configuration/change control, and release support.
· Ability to create and review clear technical documentation for code changes, troubleshooting steps, implementation support, and release readiness.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, cross-team coordination, and mentoring skills.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
· Prior Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) experience, including VA VistA or other MUMPS/M-based healthcare systems, is highly desirable. Federal healthcare experience or experience supporting regulated healthcare transaction, pharmacy, ePrescribing, or message-processing environments is also beneficial.
· Experience with controlled releases, production support, interface/API integrations, or comparable enterprise sustainment work is a plus.
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Healthcare Informatics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
CLEARANCE:
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
WORK LOCATION:
