Job Description

Assertive Professionals is in search of Software Engineers to support our National Security Customer near Hanover, MD.

This is a Funded and Immediate positions.

We are offering a salary range of:
  • Level 0: $115,000 - $125,000
  • Level 1: $171,000 - $181,000
  • Level 2: $194,000 - $204,000
  • Level 3: $232,000 - $242,000

In addition to salary, we are offering a $10,000 sign-on bonus, plus a $1,200 annual compliance bonus!

Position Description:

The Software Engineer develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems, including processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems, based upon documented requirements. Works individually or as part of a team. Reviews and tests software components for adherence to design requirements and documents test results. Resolves software problem reports. Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specific input to software components of system design, including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) solutions in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from the system level to individual software components.

Level 0:
  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements
  • Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features
  • Debug existing software and correct defects
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
  • Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
  • Make recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards


Level 1:
  • Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards
  • Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components
  • Write or review software and system documentation
  • Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, conferring with users or system engineers, analyzing systems flow, data usage and work processes, and investigating problem areas
  • Serve as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process being used on a particular project
  • Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance
  • Design, develop, and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design
  • Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces and queries


Level 2:
  • Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the software development process being used
  • Design or implement complex algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints
  • Perform quality control on team products
  • Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and obtain information on project limitations, capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met
  • Implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards


Level 3:
  • Serve as the technical lead of multiple software development teams
  • Select the software development process in coordination with the customer and system engineering
  • Recommend new technologies and processes for complex software projects
  • Ensure quality control of all developed and modified software
  • Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to one or more teams and monitor their performance


Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • TS/SCI with a Polygraph
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university
    • Four (4) years of additional software engineering experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor's degree
  • Experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity at the applicable level
  • Level 0 (Linux/System Administration) Requirements Include:
    • Less than seven (7) years of experience
    • Linux administration experience
    • Scripting experience
    • Ability to support a variety of technical tasks and projects focused on maintaining security compliance, including system patching and hardware configuration
    • Willingness and ability to learn additional mission capabilities and take on increasingly complex projects
  • Level 0 (Java/Data Ingestion) Requirements Include:
    • Four (4) to seven (7) years of Java experience
    • Experience supporting Java software development
    • Ability to support complex data ingestion from various data sources and data types
  • Level 1 (Java/RESTful Interfaces) Requirements Include:
    • Seven (7) to fourteen (14) years of Java experience
    • Strong experience developing and working with RESTful interfacesTest-driven development
  • Level 3 (Splunk/Big Data) Requirements Include:
    • Nineteen (19) or more years of software development experience
    • Experience supporting software development involving large or complex data sets


Desired Experience and Qualifications:
  • Level 0 (Linux/System Administration):
    • Experience with system patching and security compliance
    • Experience configuring hardware
  • Level 0 (Java/Data Ingestion):
    • Experience or exposure to signals analysis and/or Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
  • Level 3 (Splunk/Big Data):
    • Splunk experience is strongly preferred
    • Experience with other big data technologies may be considered in lieu of Splunk experience
    • Additional relevant technologies may include:
    • Spring and JavaScript
    • JSP and servlet programming
    • JEE and enterprise web application design and development
    • Apache Tomcat
    • JavaScript presentation libraries such as JQuery, Angular, and extJS
    • Linux development environments
    • Revision control applications such as Git, Subversion (SVN), CVS, or ClearCase
    • Test-driven development
    • Oracle, PL/SQL, and/or MySQL
    • MongoDB and Apache Camel
    • Perl
    • Red Hat Package Manager (RPM)
    • SNMP
    • Virtualization technologies
