Job Description
SecureStrux is seeking a Cybersecurity Specialist located in either West Mifflin, PA or Schenectady, NY to support the Department of Energy’s Naval Reactors Laboratory Field Office (NRLFO) Mission Support Division as the on-site Cybersecurity Specialist. You’ll lead classified and unclassified cybersecurity program implementation, drive compliance reviews and security surveys, and help NRLFO strengthen its cybersecurity posture across multiple site locations supporting the nuclear Navy.
Job Details
- Part Time, Hourly, approximately 1,560 hours within the period of performance. Total compensation expected: between $90K – $130K/yr
- Onsite, located at either the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin, PA or the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Schenectady, NY
The Work You’ll Do
- Lead implementation and management of classified and unclassified cybersecurity programs at each site office
- Ensure compliance with DOE/NNSA requirements and Cyber Security Program/Risk Management guidelines
- Develop and maintain local cybersecurity policies, procedures, and long-range plans
- Plan, schedule, and lead cybersecurity compliance reviews and formal security surveys at NRLFO and contractor facilities
- Evaluate contractor-implemented information security programs (policies, procedures, system security plans, technical controls) and identify findings, vulnerabilities, and non-compliance
- Document and report results of reviews/audits, including findings, recommendations, and corrective actions
- Recommend and lead process-improvement initiatives to strengthen cybersecurity and IT management practices
- Advise and train personnel on cybersecurity policy implementation
- Coordinate and provide occasional support to satellite locations (BPMI Pittsburgh, BPMI Schenectady, Idaho Branch Office, Kesselring Site Office, BAPL
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree (relevant field) + 4 years of directly relevant experience; OR Master’s degree (related field) + 2 years of relevant experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience at (or equivalent to) the U.S. Government GS-12 level, demonstrating the ability to lead cybersecurity audits, compliance reviews, vulnerability assessments, or risk analyses; and identifying IT system vulnerabilities
- Must currently hold an active DOE “Q” access authorization (Clearance) prior to contract start. Reciprocity with DOD clearance can be used while adjudication of DOE clearance is evaluated. Reciprocal DoD Clearance Level is a Top Secret.
- Be able to work Part-Time; Core hours 9:00AM to 3:00PM local time Monday-Friday
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal cybersecurity laws, regulations, and directives — DOE Orders, NNSA policies, DoD instructions, and Intelligence Community directives — and their implementation requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting complex findings/recommendations to senior leadership
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines and shifting priorities in a high-visibility, mission-focused environment
Preferred
- Relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, or similar)
- Familiarity with software design concepts, multiple IT disciplines, and IT infrastructure components
- Demonstrated success improving IT/cybersecurity processes; ability to manage multiple projects to completion
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience in developing and implementing new IT or cybersecurity policies and procedures at an organizational level. Prior involvement in drafting security plans, standard operating procedures, or organizational directives is beneficial.
Salary Range: Part Time, Hourly, approximately 1,560 hours within the period of performance. Total compensation expected: between $90K – $130K/yr
