Overview:
TEKsystems is seeking a motivated junior-level Network Operations Technician to support enterprise network operations and end-user connectivity in a secure government environment. This role is ideal for candidates with at least one year of IT experience who are looking to build their networking career and gain hands-on experience with Cisco infrastructure, authentication services, switch provisioning, and network troubleshooting.
The successful candidate will work directly with end users, perform network diagnostics, support switch deployments, and assist with maintaining reliable network connectivity across both unclassified and classified environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Support & Customer Engagement:
- Activate and troubleshoot network wall jacks and end-user connectivity issues.
- Perform on-site technical support and coordinate directly with customers to resolve network-related incidents.
- Utilize SSH to access network devices, verify configurations, and diagnose connectivity problems.
- Assist users with troubleshooting workstation and network access issues.
AAA / RADIUS Authentication Support:
- Investigate authentication failures impacting user access.
- Review system and device logs to identify authentication issues.
- Validate and troubleshoot AAA and RADIUS configurations on network devices.
- Perform SSH-based diagnostics to identify configuration errors, policy conflicts, and access-related issues.
- Escalate complex authentication problems as needed while documenting findings and resolutions.
Network Infrastructure Operations:
- Monitor network health and device status using Cisco Catalyst Center.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve unreachable network devices and switches.
- Assist with enterprise network maintenance activities and connectivity verification.
- Support network performance monitoring and operational readiness.
Switch Provisioning & Deployment:
- Install, provision, and configure Cisco network switches for enterprise deployments.
- Integrate newly deployed switches into existing network infrastructure.
- Support SIPR network hardware deployments and configuration activities.
- Verify switch functionality, connectivity, and compliance with established standards and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 1+ year of IT experience in a Help Desk, Desktop Support, Network Support, or related technical role.
- Fundamental understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
Knowledge of:
- TCP/IP
- OSI 7-Layer Model
- DNS
- DHCP
- Routing and Switching fundamentals
- Experience using remote access tools and command-line interfaces.
- Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills.
- Ability to work onsite in a secure government environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CompTIA Network+ certification
- Experience with Cisco networking technologies.
Familiarity with:
- Cisco Catalyst Center
- SSH administration
- Enterprise network monitoring tools
- Experience supporting classified network environments (SIPR) is a plus.
