Job Description
We are seeking a highly qualified Business Analyst to support Air Force Logistics IT systems modernization efforts as part of the Department of the Air Force's Log IT Portfolio. This position will directly support Headquarters AF/A4 and/or Secretary of the Air Force (SAF) IT stakeholders, working across the Air Force's Logistics, Engineering, & Force Protection enterprise to advance portfolio management, cloud modernization, and system integration priorities. This is a hybrid work arrangement with an average of 5% annual travel.
Security Clearance Requirement: An Interim DoD SECRET clearance is required, at minimum, to begin this role; candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a full Secret clearance.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate is a strong Action Officer — comfortable operating independently at the staff level, translating senior leader intent into executable plans, and driving actions to closure across multiple stakeholder organizations. This position requires the ability to rapidly adjust to dynamic customer priorities, respond to short-turn requests, and maintain focus on assigned tasks through completion.
The preferred candidate is a self-motivated, proactive team member; a fast learner; has excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; is an articulate written/oral communicator; has strong project management and organizational skills; and requires minimal supervision.
What You Will Do
• Serve as a strong Action Officer, operating with minimal supervision to staff, coordinate, and drive actions across Air Force and Department of the Air Force (DAF) organizations to on-time closure.
• Drive Air Force Logistics IT systems modernization efforts, with a focused emphasis on cloud activity, work efforts, and requirements as they pertain to the Log IT Portfolio of systems.
• Advise and assist in the development and oversight of portfolio IT transformation priorities, including cloud migration and modernization roadmaps.
• Support portfolio studies, identify and develop initiative business cases, advocate for IT infrastructure and cloud improvements, and recommend innovative solutions to meet mission requirements.
• Work directly with Department of the Air Force (DAF) and Secretary of the Air Force (SAF) IT stakeholders and managers to plan, coordinate, and execute portfolio initiatives.
• Collaborate with stakeholders (leaders, colleagues) across the Air Staff, AF/Joint services, and third parties (e.g., vendors, service providers) as needed to plan and oversee execution of portfolio initiatives.
• Build information and/or decision briefings for senior leaders up to 3-star level.
• Analyze IT investment plans and priorities; recommend roadmap efforts to reduce IT costs, reduce organizational risk, comply with DoD mandates (including cloud/DevSecOps policy), and meet strategic objectives.
• Lead/support portfolio summits, Rapid Improvement Events, Integrated Product Team (IPT) efforts, and other meetings with key stakeholders (e.g., functional champions and subject matter experts).
• Author strategies, plans, and procedures; periodically update to keep pace with emerging IT and cloud policy.
• Apply project management skills to capture and document requirements, produce project plans, key milestones, deliverables, and schedules, and track efforts through completion.
• Simultaneously manage multiple work streams, tracking activities across multiple organizations through completion on schedule and within budget.
• Plan and schedule meetings, facilitate technical discussions, capture action items, and produce meeting minutes.
• Develop high-quality work products using the MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio).
• Draft email correspondence for senior leader strategic communications.
What You Bring
• Air Force and/or similar staff/agency Action Officer experience — 2+ years as a Staff Action Officer, particularly at a Major Command (MAJCOM)/Combatant Command (COCOM) or higher-level Air Force/Joint staff, a considerable plus.
• 2+ years in Project Management or Lean Six Sigma Process Improvement highly desired.
• 7+ years Air Force Civil Service/US military experience in Information Technology a plus.
• Familiarity with IT fundamentals (e.g., software lifecycle management, system/network/cloud architectures); prior experience in system or technology analysis (e.g., cloud, application rationalization), compliance, or portfolio management a considerable plus.
• Working knowledge of, or experience with, Air Force Logistics IT systems and the Log IT Portfolio (e.g., G081/FMxC2, REMIS, ILS-S, ESCAPE, BLADE, etc.) a plus.
• Familiarity with DoW/Air Force cloud environments and migration efforts (e.g., CloudOne) a plus.
• Demonstrated self-starter with the ability to operate proactively and independently in a fast-paced, dynamic staff environment.
