We are seeking a Test Engineer to support quality assurance and test execution for a VA healthcare application upgrade involving pharmacy transaction workflows, NCPDP-related requirements, and integrated MUMPS/VistA and Java application components. This role focuses on developing and executing functional, integration, regression, user acceptance, and release-validation testing to confirm that software changes are complete, traceable, operationally ready, and aligned with pharmacy business needs. The Test Engineer works closely with business analysts, pharmacy SMEs, developers, configuration/release resources, system administrators, cybersecurity, operations, sustainment, and Government stakeholders to identify issues early, validate fixes, and support controlled delivery of reliable pharmacy application releases.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Develop, maintain, and execute test cases, test scripts, test data, expected results, and test evidence for pharmacy application upgrade requirements.

·         Analyze requirements, workflow changes, interface updates, user stories, defects, and release scope to define appropriate test coverage and acceptance criteria.

·         Perform functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, smoke, deployment validation, IOC readiness, UAT support, and post-release validation testing.

·         Validate pharmacy transaction workflows, message handling, data mappings, acknowledgments, routing, exception handling, rejection/error scenarios, and downstream workflow impacts.

·         Support testing across MUMPS/VistA, Java/JEE, database, interface, and external connectivity touchpoints, coordinating with technical teams as needed to isolate issues.

·         Document defects clearly, including steps to reproduce, expected versus actual results, severity, business impact, test evidence, and retest results.

·         Participate in defect triage, root-cause discussions, release-readiness reviews, and go/no-go input by providing objective test status, open-risk, and quality evidence.

·         Maintain traceability between approved requirements, test cases, test execution results, defects, release candidates, and Software Quality Assurance evidence.

·         Coordinate with Pharmacy SMEs to confirm clinically realistic test scenarios, medication safety considerations, operational workflow impacts, and expected business outcomes.

·         Support validation of role-based access, data integrity, audit/logging behavior, security-related fixes, Section 508 considerations, and other quality attributes within the assigned test scope.

·         Contribute to release package readiness by ensuring required test evidence, defect status, validation results, and known limitations are accurate, complete, and available for review.

·         Work effectively in Agile or iterative delivery cycles, supporting sprint testing, build verification, regression windows, release validation, and warranty or sustainment transition activities.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

·         5+ years of software testing, quality assurance, test engineering, or related enterprise application validation experience.

·         Experience developing and executing test cases, test scripts, test data, expected results, defect reports, and test evidence for complex software systems.

·         Experience supporting functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, UAT, release validation, and post-release validation testing.

·         Experience testing healthcare, pharmacy, EHR, electronic prescribing, transaction-processing, or other regulated enterprise applications is strongly preferred.

·         Working understanding of healthcare data exchange or transaction standards, with the ability to validate NCPDP-related message workflows from requirements and specifications.

·         Ability to test across multi-component application environments involving legacy platforms, Java/JEE applications, databases, interfaces, APIs, batch processes, or external connectivity points.

·         Ability to review XML, JSON, service messages, database records, logs, and application behavior to support defect isolation and validation of expected results.

·         Experience maintaining traceability between requirements, test cases, test execution results, defects, and release-readiness evidence.

·         Understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery, Software Quality Assurance practices, defect lifecycle management, release support, and configuration-controlled testing.

·         Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, and cross-team coordination skills.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

·         Experience supporting VA, Federal healthcare, PBM, pharmacy, or other regulated health IT environments is a plus.

·         Direct experience with NCPDP SCRIPT Standard testing, electronic prescription workflows, pharmacy transaction processing, or clearinghouse/network connectivity is beneficial but not required.

·         Familiarity with VistA, MUMPS-based applications, Java/JEE applications, Oracle databases, WebLogic, REST/SOAP services, XML, HTTPS/PKI, or comparable enterprise technology stacks is helpful.

·         Experience supporting IOC, UAT, SQA, ATO/security validation, accessibility testing, limited-interruption deployment validation, or production release readiness is beneficial.

·         Experience with test management, defect tracking, source control, automated testing, SQL/database validation, API testing, or log analysis tools is preferred but not required.

·         Relevant testing, quality assurance, Agile, healthcare IT, or software engineering certifications are preferred but not required.

EDUCATION:

·         Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Healthcare Informatics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

CLEARANCE:

·         Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

WORK LOCATION:

·         Remote
