Fully Remote Control Validation Security Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Control Validation Security Specialist to conduct comprehensive IT audits on complex systems, applications, and enclaves across classified and unclassified networks. Operating at a high technical level, this role validates security controls, performs risk and vulnerability assessments, and ensures strict alignment with DoD and Federal cybersecurity standards. The ideal candidate balances operational objectives with security requirements, leveraging tools like eMASS and the Risk Management Framework (RMF) to protect critical information assets.
Key Responsibilities
• Advanced Cybersecurity Auditing: Lead end-to-end IT security audits on complex information systems, applications, and enclaves, evaluating technical controls to ensure full compliance with Federal and DoD standards.
• Security & Vulnerability Assessment: Conduct high-level risk assessments, network security reviews, and vulnerability evaluations to establish and enforce appropriate system protection levels.
• Control Validation & Testing: Execute rigorous cybersecurity control validation exercises across classified and unclassified networks to measure the real-world effectiveness of existing security measures.
• Threat Mitigation & Risk Advisory: Balance operational business needs against cybersecurity risks, evaluating applied mitigations and recommending technical solutions to strengthen overall security posture.
• Asset Protection & Incident Prevention: Define and execute system-wide auditing procedures to safeguard sensitive information assets from unauthorized access, accidental exposure, or intentional destruction.
• Technical Evaluation & Remediation: Deliver detailed technical evaluations of customer IT systems, partnering with system owners to implement security improvements and remediate identified compliance gaps.
Required Qualifications
• Clearance: Active Secret Clearance.
• Framework Compliance: 3+ years of experience applying DoD 8500.2 or NIST SP 800-53 security controls, with a strong operational understanding of the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
• Security Management Tools: 2+ years of hands-on experience utilizing the Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS) for system authorization and tracking.
• Risk & Mitigation Analysis: Proven capability evaluating security controls, balancing operational business needs against cyber risks, and assessing applied mitigations for compliance effectiveness.
• Network Security Engineering: Practical experience configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting network infrastructure and security components.
• Analytical Software & Reporting: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in data management tools (Microsoft Excel, Access) and the standard Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint).
Compensation commensurate with experience; the indicated salary range includes full benefits. 1099 with benefits would be higher.
