What You'll Do

• Design and architect enterprise-grade Appian solutions including process models, rules, CDTs (Custom Data Types), portals, and interfaces that address complex business process automation requirements
• Gather, analyze, and document functional and technical requirements from DoD stakeholders; translate business needs into detailed technical specifications and solution designs
• Develop and implement API integrations (REST, SOAP, JDBC) to connect Appian applications with legacy systems, cloud platforms, and third-party services in enterprise environments
• Design and execute ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data migrations from legacy systems to new Appian-based environments; ensure data integrity and compliance throughout migrations
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and relational database designs; work with Oracle, SQL Server, and other database technologies to support Appian data models and integrations
• Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms; ensure compliance with security standards, FISMA requirements, and federal accessibility guidelines (Section 508)
• Conduct code reviews, peer programming sessions, and technical documentation; establish and maintain coding standards and implementation best practices across projects
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives; manage tasks and deliverables using Jira and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues; perform root cause analysis and implement preventive solutions to ensure system stability and performance
• Provide technical demonstrations and presentations to clients; interface with stakeholders to gather feedback and communicate technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Mentor and develop junior developers and consultants; share knowledge of Appian best practices and support team member growth through guidance and technical mentorship
• Leverage AI/ML capabilities within Appian to implement intelligent automation features including document processing, chatbots, and predictive workflows

Qualifications

What You Bring

Required

• U.S. Citizenship or eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance
• 6+ years of hands-on software development experience with at least 3+ years of direct, professional Appian platform development
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field
• Strong SQL expertise with hands-on experience designing and optimizing database schemas; proficiency with Oracle, SQL Server, or similar relational databases
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing API integrations using REST, SOAP, and web service technologies
• Experience with ETL tools and data migration best practices; ability to design and execute complex data integration workflows
• Proficiency with Agile/Scrum methodologies and hands-on experience using Jira or similar project management tools
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
• Understanding of federal security standards, compliance requirements, and Section 508 accessibility guidelines

Preferred

• Appian Lead Developer Certification (L4+) or multiple advanced Appian certifications
• Experience with Appian AI capabilities including document processing (RPA), intelligent forms, and generative AI integrations
• 5+ years of combined experience in software development and/or technical consulting in government or federal contracting environments
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud) in enterprise or government contexts
• Knowledge of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) or other enterprise agile methodologies
• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Git version control, and automated testing frameworks
• Familiarity with DoD/Federal standards including FISMA, FedRAMP, and federal IT acquisition regulations (FAR/DFAR
• Experience with Business Process Management (BPM) platforms, workflow automation, or process reengineering projects

Compensation will be determined in partnership with the Hiring Manager and may vary based on factors such as contract and labor category alignment, relevant experience, skills, education, certifications or licenses, and geographic location.
