Job Description
The Electrical Engineer III will serve as a site-level subject matter expert for electrical engineering, facility power systems, and capital improvement projects. This position supports large commercial facilities and data center operations from initial requirements and design through construction, commissioning, and completion.
The engineer will develop technical specifications and drawings, manage electrical projects, troubleshoot facility power systems, evaluate contractor proposals, and coordinate with operations teams, construction personnel, vendors, and government customers.
Key Responsibilities
Define and execute capital projects involving facility repairs, upgrades, and electrical infrastructure.
Develop electrical designs, technical drawings, specifications, facility diagrams, and construction documents.
Support electrical requirements for data center projects from concept through completion.
Troubleshoot site-level electrical equipment and power-distribution issues.
Provide recommendations involving daily operations, corrective maintenance, and capital-equipment projects.
Coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, testing, and documentation activities.
Perform engineering calculations and establish construction and installation standards.
Develop drawings and facility models using AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and related engineering software.
Manage project budgets, forecasts, schedules, risks, and design changes.
Prepare equipment specifications, material specifications, bid documents, and proposal evaluations.
Recommend contract awards and review invoices, technical submittals, vendor drawings, and delivery schedules.
Verify that equipment and materials meet project specifications.
Provide technical guidance to construction personnel and maintenance contractors.
Evaluate and approve design changes required during construction.
Support construction inspection and monitoring programs.
Maintain electrical design requirements, interface documents, configuration-management records, and maintenance documentation.
Work with facility management and government customers to identify engineering and maintenance requirements.
Provide guidance and technical support to less-experienced engineers.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
Five or more years of hands-on experience with commercial or industrial electrical systems.
Expert knowledge of the National Electrical Code and applicable NFPA electrical standards.
Experience developing complex engineering specifications and technical studies.
Experience supporting electrical construction, maintenance, or capital projects.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
Willingness and ability to enter confined spaces and climb or access power-system equipment when required.
Preferred Qualifications
Approximately 10 years of electrical engineering experience in large commercial buildings or industrial environments.
Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training certification.
Experience with electrical-distribution systems ranging from 480V through 12.47 kV.
Experience with substations, paralleling equipment, switchgear, and critical-power systems.
Experience supporting data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
Knowledge of PLC control systems and associated HMI graphics.
Experience with large AC and DC motor-drive systems and variable-speed controls.
Knowledge of arc-flash hazard analysis, PPE requirements, and OSHA standards.
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, BUILDER, MS Project, or CMMS platforms.
Previous experience supporting government facilities or secure operating environments.
