About the Role
Cadence Coalition, a veteran- and woman-owned small business, is seeking a hands-on technical support specialist to serve as the sole on-site technology resource for the Barksdale AFB Education Center. This is an independent, customer-facing role supporting the Air Force voluntary off-duty education and testing mission.
You will own the health of the Education Center's technology environment end to end: two testing rooms with 40 test stations, a 16-seat computer lab, 11 classrooms, 15 staff workstations, servers, switches, routers, printers, satellite training equipment, and the facility video surveillance system.
This role is an excellent fit for recently separated or retired Air Force communications, client systems, or cyber transport personnel who hold current CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications and want a stable, part-time position on base.
What You'll Do
Network Administration and Support
Monitor, operate, and maintain the Education Center network and servers daily.
Perform switch and router configuration support, connectivity troubleshooting, and performance monitoring.
Recommend and implement network improvements; develop and maintain facility network diagrams.
Troubleshoot and restore computer lab and satellite training (DETN) equipment.
Hardware, Software, and Desktop Support
Provide immediate on-site hardware and software support for testing computers, staff and classroom PCs, servers, printers, fax machines, satellite receivers, and peripherals.
Administer Windows 10/11 Enterprise and Microsoft 365 across all systems.
Support testing portals including Pearson VUE and Air Force eLearning; keep DLAB/DLPT test stations ready.
Set up new systems, including running cable through ceilings, baseboards, and walls.
Train and assist staff on the software they need to do their jobs.
Equipment Lifecycle and Inventory
Account for all technology equipment from receipt to disposal using base-provided inventory tools.
Perform the annual physical inventory of assigned computer systems and peripherals.
Maintain and execute the computer refresh schedule; assist leadership with researching and purchasing systems via GSA Advantage.
Maintain a facility diagram and tracking database for fixes and implementations.
SharePoint, Database, and Data Management
Maintain the Education Center SharePoint site: update links, build pages, and manage layout.
Install, maintain, and upgrade the Education Center primary database; migrate data safely between systems; train staff on upgrades.
Physical and Information Security
Maintain proper information security on all systems in accordance with DoD and Air Force guidance.
Install and operate the video surveillance system (server, switches, cameras, software); maintain required recording retention.
Review building security procedures, change cyber-lock combinations, and instruct personnel on secure container locks.
Educate staff on procedures for protecting sensitive data and records.
Customer Service and General Support
Advise the Education Center Director and Team Leader on phone, computer, and surveillance systems planning.
Support on-base university partners' technology and security requirements.
Maintain a clean, orderly customer service counter workstation.
Required Qualifications
2–5 years of experience in hardware and software application support, education technology, or a closely related instructional support role.
Current CompTIA A+ certification.
Current CompTIA Network+ certification.
At least 1 year of related professional or volunteer experience within the last 2 years.
Associate's degree or equivalent technical training (Air Force technical training school qualifies), OR 4 years of relevant technical experience.
Knowledge of and experience with Air Force computer/network security regulations.
Experience with standard installation practices for network and video surveillance equipment.
Working knowledge of Windows 10/11 Enterprise and Microsoft 365 Office Enterprise.
Working knowledge of foreign language and Professional Military Education (PME) testing programs.
Strong customer service, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to obtain a Contractor Access Card on day one and successfully complete a National Agency Check.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with the Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) and Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT).
Experience supporting Pearson VUE and Air Force eLearning testing portals.
Prior Air Force base-level communications or client systems experience (3D1X1, 3D1X2, 3D0X1, or successor AFSCs).
SharePoint site administration experience.
Video surveillance/CCTV installation and administration experience.
Experience with DETN or other satellite-based distance learning equipment.
Schedule and Working Conditions
On-site at Barksdale AFB; no remote work.
Approximately 20 hours per week, prescheduled monthly, during normal Education Center hours of 0800–1600. Occasional support outside these hours may be requested, with a two-hour response expectation.
Physical requirements include running cable in ceilings and walls, lifting and installing servers, switches, cameras, and workstations, and moving safes.
Must complete government-assigned annual training.
Compensation and Benefits
This position is covered by the Service Contract Act. Compensation includes an hourly wage plus a health and welfare benefit, paid vacation, paid sick leave, and 11 paid federal holidays.
