Unit: 1st Battalion, 5th Aviation Regiment (1-5 AVN)
Clearance Requirement: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Technician II to provide aviation maintenance support to the 1st Battalion, 5th Aviation Regiment (1-5 AVN) at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
The NDI Technician II will inspect aircraft structures, components, systems, and support equipment for structural integrity using a variety of nondestructive inspection methods. This position is responsible for identifying and evaluating defects, interpreting inspection results, performing fluid analysis, maintaining NDI equipment, and ensuring all inspections are completed in accordance with applicable technical guidance and safety requirements.
The contract supports rotary-wing aircraft permanently assigned to 1-5 AVN as well as transient and rotational units operating at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC). Supported aircraft may include UH-60 series, CH-47, AH-64, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).
Key Responsibilities
• Perform nondestructive inspections on aircraft structures, components, systems, and support equipment to determine structural integrity and serviceability.
• Detect cracks, delaminations, voids, processing defects, heat damage, and other material or structural flaws.
• Perform inspections utilizing penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical, and ultrasonic testing methods and equipment.
• Determine the appropriate nondestructive inspection method based on the component, material, condition, and applicable technical requirements.
• Prepare parts, materials, and inspection fluids for NDI testing.
• Interpret and evaluate NDI test results and provide defect information to appropriate maintenance and repair personnel.
• Determine metallurgical characteristics of components based on alloy, temper, conductivity, and related factors.
• Perform fluid analysis, including analysis of wear-metal content in engine lubricating oil and other applicable fluids, and recommend corrective action when required.
• Establish and control radiation areas during radiographic inspection operations.
• Compute and monitor personnel exposure requirements associated with radiographic operations and maintain applicable exposure data.
• Operate, inspect, maintain, and perform operator-level maintenance on NDI equipment, shop equipment, and tools.
• Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed before performing maintenance on applicable equipment.
• Perform silver recovery functions as required.
• Properly handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials and hazardous waste in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Support scheduled and unscheduled aviation maintenance and aircraft inspections.
• Accurately document inspections, findings, maintenance actions, and related information through required logs, records, forms, and electronic systems.
• Comply with applicable technical manuals, maintenance procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
• Support Aviation Field Level Maintenance operations, including Battle Damage Assessment and Repair (BDAR) and Downed Aircraft Recovery Team (DART) operations, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must have completed an initial Non-Destructive Inspection Training Course.
• Must maintain current basic NDI qualification.
• Must be trained and certified in accordance with NAS 410 – Certification & Qualification of Nondestructive Test Personnel.
• Must possess the knowledge and experience necessary to perform and interpret nondestructive inspections using applicable NDI/NDT methods.
• Must be able to properly operate, inspect, and maintain nondestructive inspection equipment and associated tools.
• Must understand applicable safety requirements for radiographic operations, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Must be capable of accurately interpreting inspection results and communicating identified defects to appropriate maintenance personnel.
• Must be able to read, understand, and comply with applicable aircraft maintenance manuals, technical manuals, and inspection procedures.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) for access to Government facilities and systems.
• Must meet all applicable Government and contract requirements for performance at Fort Polk.
