Contract Technical Recruiter - DoD / Federal IT

Location: San Antonio, Tampa, or Huntsville
Employment Type: Contract
Experience: 5+ years in DoD / Federal IT recruiting

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Recruiter with a strong background recruiting IT professionals within the Department of Defense (DoD) and federal government contracting space. The ideal candidate understands the unique challenges of cleared recruiting, including security clearance requirements, candidate eligibility, and the clearance process.

This role will be responsible for sourcing, engaging, qualifying, and successfully placing highly skilled IT professionals across a range of technical and cleared positions. Experience supporting DHS (Department of Homeland Security) programs is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead full-cycle recruiting for IT positions supporting DoD and federal government programs.
  • Source and attract candidates with active, current, or eligible security clearances.
  • Recruit across technical disciplines such as cybersecurity, cloud, systems engineering, network engineering, software development, infrastructure, DevOps, and other IT specialties.
  • Develop and maintain strong pipelines of cleared IT professionals.
  • Understand and communicate security clearance requirements, including the differences between clearance levels and the general clearance process.
  • Effectively screen candidates for technical qualifications, clearance status, eligibility, employment history, and overall fit.
  • Partner with hiring managers and program leadership to understand technical requirements and develop effective recruiting strategies.
  • Utilize LinkedIn, job boards, professional networks, referrals, and other sourcing channels to identify qualified candidates.
  • Maintain accurate candidate records and recruiting activity within the applicant tracking system.
  • Provide a positive and professional candidate experience throughout the recruiting process.
  • Stay current on DoD contracting trends, clearance requirements, compensation expectations, and the cleared talent market.
  • Support recruiting efforts for both high-volume and hard-to-fill technical positions.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of technical recruiting experience within the DoD, federal government contracting, or cleared IT recruiting space.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting IT professionals for government or defense-related programs.
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. security clearance process, including clearance levels, adjudication, reciprocity, and the general lifecycle of a security clearance.
  • Experience recruiting candidates with Secret, Top Secret, TS/SCI, SCI, and/or other government security requirements.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate technical job requirements and effectively assess candidate qualifications.
  • Proven ability to source passive candidates and build pipelines for difficult-to-fill technical positions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple requisitions and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively with hiring managers, candidates, and internal stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience recruiting for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) programs.
  • Experience supporting multiple federal agencies or government contractors.
  • Familiarity with government contracting environments, including prime contractors and subcontractors.
  • Experience recruiting for cleared cybersecurity, cloud, DevSecOps, engineering, and infrastructure positions.
  • Familiarity with systems and databases used to verify or manage security clearance information.
  • Experience working with ATS/CRM platforms and recruiting tools such as LinkedIn Recruiter.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of the cleared IT talent market, an established recruiting network, and the ability to move quickly while maintaining a high-quality candidate experience. They should be comfortable discussing security clearances with candidates, partnering with hiring managers on difficult technical searches, and developing creative sourcing strategies when traditional recruiting methods aren't enough.

If you have a proven track record recruiting cleared IT professionals in the DoD space and understand what it takes to successfully navigate the federal recruiting environment, we'd like to hear from you.
