Job Description
About us
One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we're on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We're looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.
What you'll do
As an Industrial Engineer (IE) - Lean Practitioner at Viasat you are joining a growing and dynamic group of Lean Practitioners. You will be integrated into the onsite IE team in Tempe, AZ and across the organization. In this role, you will play a key part in analyzing and improving the performance of manufacturing lines. Your primary tool will be Discrete Event Analysis using ProModel. Partnering with a Senior Industrial Engineer as needed, you will identify inefficiencies, design data-driven solutions, and implement process improvements to drive operational excellence. You will work on optimizing workflows, minimizing waste, and enhancing overall productivity while contributing to Lean initiatives that foster a culture of continuous improvement. This role provides an opportunity to directly impact the success of the organization while building your technical expertise and problem-solving skills.
The day-to-day
Your daily responsibilities will include gathering and analyzing manufacturing data, running simulations in ProModel, identifying areas for improvement, and presenting your findings. Expect to engage with multi-functional teams to collect data, explain insights, and support solution implementation. Solutions in scope include floor layout, resource optimization, flow development, visual management, tiered management, and many other Lean guidelines.
Given demand, you will also be asked to support similar analyses for outsourced programs at suppliers globally (however, at a reduced scale of implementation engagement). You will conduct an assessment of capacity and capability to ensure the schedule. Your tactful collection of manufacturing line data and clear messaging to joint leadership teams will be critical for award volume, investment, and program outcomes.
From on-the-floor observations to troubleshooting real-time challenges to supplier assessment, your work will focus on driving efficiency and supporting the seamless operations of Viasat's most critical manufacturing lines. Each day will offer new opportunities to learn, innovate, and make a measurable impact.
