Job Description

Summary

  • We are seeking highly qualified and mission-focused Sergeant K9 Handlers to support U.S. Army security operations. This position combines armed security, force protection, law enforcement support, and specialized K9 operations to protect personnel, facilities, equipment, and critical infrastructure.
  • As a Sergeant K9 Handler, you will serve as a member of an elite security team responsible for access control, patrol operations, emergency response, explosives and/or narcotics detection, vehicle and facility inspections, and support to force protection missions. This role requires exceptional professionalism, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to effectively work with an assigned working dog as a certified handler/team.

Responsibilities

  • Protect U.S. Army personnel, facilities, equipment, property, and infrastructure.
  • Perform armed security duties in accordance with Army regulations, post orders, and standard operating procedures.
  • Control access to government facilities and restricted areas.
  • Verify credentials and authorization for personnel, visitors, and vehicles entering secured areas.
  • Conduct security patrols by foot and vehicle to identify and deter security threats.
  • Perform facility inspections, vehicle inspections, package inspections, and security checks.
  • Respond to alarms, disturbances, emergencies, accidents, and security incidents.
  • Prepare incident reports, activity reports, and other required documentation.
  • Work as a certified handler/canine team in support of security and force protection missions.
  • Conduct explosive detection and/or narcotics detection operations as assigned.
  • Perform vehicle, facility, baggage, package, and infrastructure sweeps.
  • Support searches for prohibited items, evidence, suspicious packages, and persons of interest.
  • Maintain operational readiness and proficiency of assigned canine.
  • Ensure proper care, grooming, feeding, transportation, housing, and veterinary support for assigned canine.
  • Maintain kennel facilities and ensure compliance with applicable canine care standards.
  • Participate in required training, exercises, certifications, and recertifications.
  • Respond to security incidents, force protection events, and emergency situations.
  • Assist law enforcement, fire, emergency medical, and military personnel as required .
  • Be prepared to utilize force, including deadly force, when authorized and necessary.
  • Maintain readiness to respond to active threats and other critical incidents.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required .
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following:
  • Military Police
  • Security Forces
  • Law Enforcement
  • Corrections
  • Federal Security
  • Armed Security Operations
  • Military Combat Arms Occupations
  • Force Protection Operations
  • Honorable discharge from military service, if applicable.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current or previous Army-certified K9 Handler certification.
  • Prior experience as an Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) or Narcotics Detection Dog (NDD) handler.
  • Military working dog experience.
  • Previous experience supporting Department of Defense security operations.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of security operations, force protection principles, and access control procedures.
  • Understanding of Army security regulations and operational standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as a handler/canine team.
  • Strong observation, situational awareness, and threat detection skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, patrol, communicate, observe , and respond to security-related activities.
  • Frequently required to run, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and maintain balance during operational duties.
  • Ability to conduct extended foot patrols in various indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to restrain, control, and work safely with an assigned working dog.
  • Must possess sufficient visual acuity to identify security threats, inspect credentials, observe suspicious activity, and operate vehicles and security equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
