Network Software Engineer (Python/Automation)
Location: Scott Air Force Base, IL (100% Onsite)
Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance
Certification: Security+ (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)

Are you a software engineer who enjoys automating complex processes and building solutions that eliminate manual work?
We're seeking a Network Software Engineer to join a newly formed team supporting a critical DoD network modernization initiative. This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about Python development, scripting, and automation and want to apply those skills to large-scale enterprise network environments.
This is not a traditional network engineering position. We are looking for a programmer first and network engineer second. If you've built automation tools, developed APIs, integrated systems, or created solutions that improve operational efficiency, we'd love to speak with you.
What You'll Do
• Design, develop, test, and deploy automation solutions using Python and related technologies
• Build tools that automate network operations and reduce manual processes
• Develop and maintain REST APIs and software integrations
• Work within a collaborative engineering environment to design scalable solutions
• Integrate software with enterprise network infrastructure
• Troubleshoot and enhance automation workflows
• Utilize Git and version control best practices
• Support the full software development lifecycle from design through deployment
• Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to deliver mission-critical capabilities
Required Qualifications
• Active DoD Secret Clearance (or higher)
• Strong Python development experience
• Experience with scripting and process automation
• Experience developing or integrating REST APIs
• Experience working with JSON and data processing
• Experience using Git or similar version control tools
• Experience working in a Linux environment
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Network automation experience
• Knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, or ISIS
• Experience working with Cisco or Juniper technologies
• Experience with Cisco Network Services Orchestrator (NSO)
• Experience with YANG, NETCONF, RESTCONF, or Software Defined Networking (SDN)
• Previous experience supporting government or defense programs
• Security+ CE or equivalent IAT Level II certification
