Job Description

Duties

  • You will provide quality control oversight on the work performed by lower-level technicians within the branch.
  • You will recommend and determine appropriate measurement standards, modifying and redesigning support equipment and developing new measurement techniques.
  • You will progress and review completed work to ensure the Branch Head's instruction for work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.
  • You will ensure environmental conditions are maintained within specified parameters and perform tests on the effects of environmental conditions on equipment.
  • You will administer the RADIAC training and qualification program to the team in accordance with established NAVSEA policy.
  • You will examine technical data for assessment of equipment, subsystems, or material characteristics to understand operation and resolve problems.
  • You will be required to comply with NRC policy and regulations in the operation and safeguarding of the various radioactive sources necessary for the operation of the RCL.
  • You will be responsible for providing parts costs analyst support, workload planning, and coordination of the RCL's Lead Activity responsibilities.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting small objects and equipment over 45 pounds may be required.
  • Safety and radiation hazards are encountered at production and repair areas requiring the use of proper safety equipment.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • May be exposed to dust, dirt, extremes of temperatures, and high noise levels found in production facilities and on ships.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Must have or be able to complete the RADIAC Instrument Calibration/Maintenance course (RICC) or (RIMC) within one year of employment.
  • Must have or be able to complete NAVSEA Detachment RASO Radiation Safety Officer (RASO) Course within two years of employment.
  • Must have or be able to complete NAVSEA Detachment RASO Class 7 Radioactive Shipper's Course, or equivalent within two years of employment.
Qualifications

GS-11
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience performing as a RADIAC Calibration Technician for at least one year.
  • Experience interpreting and following NAVSEA and NRC policy and directives.
  • Experience applying knowledge of radiation detection principles and the different types of ionizing radiation.
  • Experience implementing knowledge of RADIAC systems and their operating requirements.
  • Experience utilizing knowledge in interpreting design drawings, design specifications, technical repair standards, field change bulletins, and other technical literature for a variety of RADIAC instruments and systems.
