About Leidos

Leidos is a FORTUNE 500® company bringing a mix of innovative technology and sector expertise to customers in the national security, engineering, and health industries. We deliver innovative solutions through the efforts of our diverse and talented people who are dedicated to our customers' success. Guided by our Mission, Vision, and Values, Leidos empowers its teams, contributes to its communities, and operates sustainably—always with a commitment to doing the right thing for our customers, our people, and our community.

The Leidos Intel Sector combines technology-enabled services and mission software capabilities in the areas of cyber, logistics, security operations, and decision analytics to support Intelligence Community customers as they address evolving national security challenges.

About the Opportunity

Leidos is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the requirements, architecture, design, integration, and verification of complex mission systems. You will translate user needs, Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), and high-level architectures into system requirements while helping guide technical solutions from concept through implementation.

You will work across hardware, software, facilities, personnel, security, and operational considerations while collaborating with Government stakeholders, developers, engineers, and other program personnel to maintain the technical integrity of assigned systems-engineering work.

Why This Role Matters

Effective systems engineering connects mission needs to technical solutions. Requirements, architectures, interfaces, designs, security considerations, and verification activities must remain aligned as systems evolve. As a Systems Engineer, you will help establish that technical foundation—turning stakeholder needs into actionable requirements and designs while supporting integration, verification, and implementation across the system lifecycle.

What You'll Do

Requirements Engineering & Management
  • Analyze user requirements, CONOPS, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications.
  • Guide users in formulating requirements, evaluating alternative approaches, and assessing technical feasibility.
  • Manage system and derived requirements to support delivery of production systems compatible with defined architectures, including DoDAF and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) environments.
  • Assist in developing system and functional requirements and allocating them to hardware, software, facility, and personnel components.
  • Derive lower-level requirements from higher-level allocated requirements and ensure they are complete, correct, unique, unambiguous, realizable, and verifiable.
  • Identify stakeholder needs and functions logically inferred or implied by system requirements that are essential to system effectiveness.
  • Develop derived Information Assurance requirements addressing confidentiality, integrity, non-repudiation, availability, identification, authentication, access control, accountability, and applicable security mechanisms.

System Architecture & Design
  • Analyze system requirements and support design and development activities.
  • Generate alternative system concepts, physical architectures, and design solutions.
  • Develop system design solutions that satisfy system requirements and functional analyses.
  • Allocate real-time process budgets and error budgets to system and subsystem components.
  • Develop system architecture and system design documentation.
  • Incorporate new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations.
  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) developing new capabilities based on relevant development and operational considerations.

Interfaces, Baselines & Technical Coordination
  • Participate in interface definition, design, and configuration changes among affected groups and individuals throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Help establish and gain approval of system or component definitions—including requirements, designs, interfaces, and test procedures—that provide common reference points for hardware and software developers.
  • Coordinate cross-discipline resolution of action items from Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews.
  • Provide technical leadership supporting the integration of requirements, design, and technology.

Verification & Implementation Planning
  • Define methods, processes, and evaluation criteria for verifying systems, subsystems, and work products against established requirements in a written plan.
  • Guide system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of Systems Engineering Management Plans and system integration and test plans.
  • Support alignment among requirements, system design, interfaces, integration, and verification activities.

Systems Engineering Documentation & Program Planning
  • Develop and contribute to systems-engineering documentation, including Systems Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.
  • Develop technical documentation supporting system architecture and design activities.
  • Review and provide input to program and contract Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), work packages, and the Integrated Master Plan (IMP).

Government & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Interact with Government stakeholders regarding systems-engineering technical considerations, problems, issues, and conflicts.
  • Communicate with program personnel, Government overseers, developers, engineers, and senior executives.
  • Maintain responsibility for the technical integrity of assigned Systems Engineering work and associated deliverables.

Required Qualifications

Clearance
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph at time of Application, to be considered for the position.

Education & Experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Systems Engineer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) additional years of Systems Engineering experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
