Job Description/Essential Functions:

Bevilacqua Research Corporation (BRC) is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned, Small Business based in Huntsville, Alabama incorporated in 1992. BRC provides “best-value” technical and management solutions to a diverse government and commercial customer base in the following key business areas: test & evaluation, systems analysis & integration, security & intelligence, and R&D.

This opportunity provides Systems Engineering (SE) and Systems Analysis integration support to the Systems Analysis Branch (EV73), supporting NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) Program and Artemis missions.

The successful candidate will support the management, assessment, integration, and use of Design Math Models (DMMs) across the SLS engineering lifecycle. This position requires a combination of systems engineering expertise, significant experience applying modeling and simulation (M&S), analytical problem solving, and process development.

The position is particularly suited for an engineer who can work across organizational and technical boundaries, investigate process issues, organize engineering information, and translate that information into defensible engineering documents to support SLS launch operations.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:
  • Serve as a Systems Engineering representative to SLS DMM Task Teams.
    • Review DMM metadata for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and traceability.
    • Participate in technical reviews of DMMs and associated documentation.
    • Evaluate model pedigree, intended use, configuration, verification and validation evidence, and supporting technical data.
    • Provide Systems Engineering concurrence that DMMs and associated metadata satisfy stated objectives and are ready for SLS applications.
  • Review proposed models and simulations and perform criticality assessments to determine appropriate management, documentation, and tracking requirements.
  • Support verification, validation, accreditation/certification, and credibility assessment activities for engineering models and simulations.
  • Apply Systems Engineering principles to the management and integration of models, engineering data, requirements, configuration information, and technical products throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Work closely with Configuration Management, Data Management, engineering discipline organizations, software/data integration teams, and program stakeholders to maintain consistency and traceability of technical information.
  • Perform investigative and forensic analysis of technical data to:
    • Reconstruct model history, pedigree, configuration, and usage.
    • Identify inconsistencies, gaps, dependencies, or conflicting information.
    • Establish relationships among models, analyses, requirements, configurations, and engineering decisions.
    • Develop technically defensible conclusions from incomplete or distributed information.
  • Develop, document, and improve Systems Engineering processes and workflows associated with model management, technical data, reviews, approvals, and engineering integration.
  • Work with software developers and data integration organizations to define user needs, functional requirements, workflow improvements, and enhancements to engineering tools and applications.
  • Facilitate resolution of complex technical and organizational issues involving multiple engineering disciplines and stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Industrial, Aeronautical/Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university; or a bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a comparable technical field.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience.

The candidate must also demonstrate:
  • Extensive experience applying modeling and simulation throughout an engineering or product lifecycle.
  • Experience performing or supporting verification, validation, accreditation/certification, or credibility assessment of models and simulations.
  • Experience using models and simulations to inform and support technical decisions.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, including the ability to collect and evaluate information from multiple sources, identify inconsistencies or gaps, establish technical relationships, and develop defensible conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to decompose complex technical problems into manageable elements and facilitate resolution across multiple organizations.
  • Experience developing, improving, or institutionalizing engineering processes and workflows.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical activities, records, reviews, and stakeholders concurrently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop productive working relationships across engineering disciplines and organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, customer relations, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical personnel and senior management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Desired Experience:
The following qualifications will be considered discriminating factors in selecting applicants:
  • Experience working with Configuration Management and/or Data Management principles, processes, and organizations.
  • Experience performing technical or forensic analysis in which information from multiple sources must be correlated to reconstruct events, determine technical pedigree, identify discrepancies, or support decision making.
  • Experience with product management, product ownership, product strategy, or software development organizations.
  • Experience translating engineering user needs into requirements or enhancements for software developers and data management organizations.
  • Experience developing engineering governance, review, approval, or technical data management processes.
  • Experience or knowledge of NASA Systems Engineering policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of NASA management and governance of Design Math Models.
  • Certified Modeling & Simulation Professional (CMSP) certification.
  • Modeling and Simulation experience involving launch vehicles, spacecraft, aerospace systems, or other complex systems.
  • Knowledge of NASA spacecraft, launch vehicles, Artemis missions, or the Space Launch System Program.

The strongest candidates will demonstrate a combination of technical depth, analytical ability, and organizational effectiveness. The position requires an individual who is:
  • Analytical and naturally investigative.
  • Highly organized and attentive to technical details.
  • Comfortable working with incomplete, distributed, or occasionally conflicting engineering information.
  • Able to recognize relationships and dependencies across models, data, configurations, requirements, and organizations.
  • Process-oriented without losing sight of engineering objectives.
  • Comfortable engaging engineers, software developers, technical leads, and managers.
  • Willing to ask questions, challenge inconsistencies, and pursue issues through technical closure.
  • Capable of working independently while functioning effectively as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Outgoing and proactive in developing the working relationships necessary to obtain information and resolve technical issues.
