Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) Headquarters Space Force Command (HQSF) Space Enterprise and Assured Access (S3E) at The Pentagon is searching for a Chief (NH-0343-04, GS 14/15 equivalent).

Description:
Serving as the primary advisor to senior leadership, the Chief of Space Domain Awareness dynamically directs the Space Domain Awareness branch to plan, develop, and coordinate critical service-level positions in direct support of global space operations. In this high-impact leadership role, the Chief evaluates complex, highly classified plans and policies for operational supportability and feasibility while proactively defining the United States Space Force's strategic stance on evolving capability requirements, international policy, and joint integration issues. By actively leading cutting-edge Space Domain Awareness initiatives and crafting high-level briefings for executive decision-makers, they ensure the safety, security, and strategic advantage of allied assets across the space domain.

The ideal candidate is an agile and highly experienced space operations leader who holds a Bachelor's degree, with a Master's degree preferred, and possesses extensive operational experience leading strategic initiatives to integrate cutting-edge Space Domain Awareness (SDA) systems and concepts into global space operations. They are intimately familiar with SDA governance and bring a proven track record of collaborating on SDA matters with international and commercial partners, backed by an extensive, technical knowledge of the Space Surveillance Network and other multi-mission sensors that contribute to domain security. As an expert communicator capable of articulating complex, highly technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, the candidate commands a comprehensive understanding of Department of War structures, missions, programs, policies, and organizational relationships, with desired but not required experience in influence planning, Military Information Support Operations, or Operations Security.

Key Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the Department of War processes and Department of Air Force policy, procedures, and schedules for developing plans in support of major Space Force missions and operations plans.
  • Knowledge of Space Force program goals and objectives, the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones, and methods of evaluating the effectiveness of planning actions as related to actual events.
  • Knowledge of the Space Force Strategic Basing process, such as the Basing Request Review Panel (BRRP), the Strategic Basing Executive Steering Group, and the Space Force Corporate Structure.
  • Knowledge of the relationship of the various Space Force entities involved in overall planning and execution of military operations and evaluations, and the way PPBE processes support them.
  • Knowledge of Space Force installations to include the interaction of Total Force partners (to include Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve).
  • Ability to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, conduct analysis, devise recommended solutions, and package the entire process in briefings, papers, or reports suitable for top management use and decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiate complex issues and maintains good working relations.

    • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.

    • This PRD has been classified based on projected duties or new mission requirements. The duties within in this PRD may be reviewed for accuracy after 12 months of Full Operational Capability of organization identified within in this PRD.
    • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY).

    • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
